Hey you guys, I ran a 48 8N all of my life (I'm 71) and all I ever added to it was a 12v battery and a coil with a new ballast resister from a Mopar. I never even upgraded the generator, which never worked anyway. I just charged the battery with a trickle charger. My 8N has the distributer in the front with the integral coil. So I made a dummy coil out of a 4"X4" wood block and made connection thru it to run it on an external car coil. I overdid it probably by using a great big old Accel (Yellow Finned) coil. My tractor was Dad's so it was there as long as I can remember. One time my Mom and Dad spent the night at my house and it snowed overnight and got real cold. In the morning I said let's go out and plow the driveway with that old 8N. It was about 0°F outside and the tractor was in the driveway. When we got out there I jumped up onto the tractor, sat down on the seat moved the throttle to about 1/4 , pulled the choke out all the way, turned the key on and just as I was about to press the starter button Dad said "you don't expect that thing to start do ya?" With that I hit the starter and it cranked right up. He was astonished. It had original type 10X28 tires on it with chains so I had good traction, but the only blade we ever had for it to this day was/ is a big old cast iron grader blade that took two men and a boy to move. Not one of those sheet metal snow blades. It had an adjustable angle for the blade to level dirt. That's what I used to move snow for 50yrs. You should have pulled some trees out of the woods or something to show the traction available with the track. With chains I have danced the front tires off the ground in 2' deep snow in 1st gear WOT breaking trail, but after one pass I could pull logs out if the limbs were cut off. OK, fine video. tnx bc/ michigan

lol these old tractors are quite the little beasts! If the snow hangs around a lill longer I’ll try to skid some wood with it! Thanks for the story! 😊

Uphill my float would shut the fuel off, I think you can bend the tab where needle and seat are on the float so when going uphill it won't lift the back off the float to soon and shut fuel off. If not that, see if the tank line drains in the back or mid tank, some water could be gathering when going up hill in the filter and plugging it, since water won't pass through the paper filter, good vid

I ran a 48 8N for 49yrs, never had any problem with my carb except got bugs into the gas can one time and had to clean everything out. Gas wouldn't come out of the tank. Same carb that came on it new, never bought a part for it ever. I'd say make sure you have fuel getting to the carb, and the float level is right. Clean Clean Clean, worse than an automatic transmission valve body. Of course if you can figure out how to run it on water, I'm all ears. Otherwise keep the water out of the gas. ben/ michigan

Or a larger jet maybe, sounds like when it in a bind it’s not getting enough fuel! 🤷🏼 Try pulling a plow or something heavy! Thanks Dan and Victor! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸🇨🇦🇺🇸🇨🇦✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻
