So we have patch 1.4 which says it fixes bike handling. While it helps a little we still have a long way to go and this doesn't help car handling or navigation in sport mode.

the roadbook issue is apparently not only an in game problem because even Carlos Sainz Sr complain about it irl

I have won that first race on a quad. After an hour or two of trying. Then my save resets and my progress was lost. I feel like a clown at the moment...

The particle effects, the damage model, and the chaotic sports mode is just too great....reminded me of Motorstorm. Dirt 5 and FH5 did have the chaos but not as chaotic as this...and it is satisfying, almost like Wreckfest chaotic

No offense but I have no issues with the roadbook or navigating myself once I figured out what everything meant after a few hours. That just seems like user error. /shrug

On principle, any product should be complete before release. To add to your points, Saber Porto was also advertising 'Dakar Desert Rally' to feature a livery and roadbook editor, where players could fabricate their own team and rally stages. Sadly, those additions are not present currently and although they are coming in future updates, it is still erroneous to release a product unfinished only to patch it later. Even photo mode and replays won't come to the game until 2023 - features that should have been in 'Dakar Desert Rally' from the start. If Saber Porto were passionate about their game, they would not launch it prematurely.

I agree with this review (and I put down hard cash for the XBSX Deluxe Edition inc. Season Pass). As of this writing, Dakar Desert Rally is an unfinished, broken sim. I've set it aside for now in the hope that in the coming weeks and months the developer patches it into something playable. After the nightmare that was Dakar 18, I had been hopeful about DDR. Alas.

Did they fix the saving issues yet?

The next navigation in this game makes me feel like a moron except I’m not. In theory it should be simple but this game makes it harder than it should be.

This game could be great but it will be on sale for 3.99 fairly quickly in this state. Navigation is the biggest killer, it's not done smart and just a broken difficulty mechanic that is not fun but only frustrating

Can you exit your vehicle like in Dakar 18?

@@handguideline ohh, too bad. I really enjoyed when i got stuck and had to come out with the boards to get the truck back rolling. Even when going on treasure hunt or just driving freely on a stage, it was fun to be able to get out and walk around like on GTA. Does it atleast let us finally drive the whole map at once? Before, the treasure hunt mode and even staged had a limit of how far you could go if you just went to drive to one way to see what you would find

it's cool and all, but the physics issue ... I think I'm gonna Skip this for now... Hopefully in future it will improve because this has so much potential.

@@-_saudyahya1269 It's nowhere near realistic. The physics are bad because every vehicle, including the trucks to some extent, have the trait to massively oversteer to an unrealistic extent.

If you refuse to learn how to read the roadbooks, you're not gonna have a lot of fun with this title. Also some of the quads appear to be broken, some of them are much easier to drive than others even when they are supposed to be the same model.

@@Delimon007 The CAP indicator only appears when you are within 1.5-3.0 km (depending on the type of waypoint) from a mandatory GPS waypoint. When you are further away, you must either follow the road or the traces according to the roadbook instructions (which is why you need to learn to read the roadbook), or follow the CAP direction indicated in the roadbook (usually stated as 'HP' i.e. off-road in the roadbook). It works exactly as rally raid navigation irl.

This is Need for Speed Dakar, nothing more. I don't understand how they managed to fuck up so hard. Dakar 18 is better, even with it's wonky physics.

The physics are really poor. How the hell did they put a drift bonus in that game when it's impossible to manage slides. The navigation is hardcore, weather is hardcore, terrain is hardcore, handling is awful. Casual rally players will be frustrated by the hardcore elements and hardcore rally players will be frustrated by the terrible physics. Who is this game for?

Everybody who liked Dakar 18 said "fix the physics and it becomes one of the best racing experiences ever". They did the exact opposite. Made them even worse. That says a LOT about the state of the videogame industry nowadays. ZERO connection with the players/customers. To answer the qustion, it's for need for speed/ forza horizon players. The "simulation" elements are there only for show. You disable them and you get Need for Speed Dakar.
