Basic overview of the setting and characters: The events of Half Life 1 drew an inter dimensional empire called the Combine to Earth, they then conquered it in an event called the 7-Hour War which is exactly what it sounds like. Vortigaunts were enemies in the first game but are now allies in fighting the Combine with the resistance. You saw one in the intro with the Headcrab. The alien characters are based on Race X from then Opposing Force expansion for Half Life 1. The one eyed alien is called Shock Trooper, the small screaming one is a Pit Drone, and Timothy is a cut content enemy called a Kingpin which has powerful psychic abilities. The cop that attacks the group is part of an enforcement department of the Combine called Civil Protection. Normal humans that signed up to help the Combine for various benefits (including fresh water) however the main Earth military of the Combine is called the Overwatch, augmented humans that are mindlessly loyal to the Combine.

I do hope Alfa can get Ross Scott of "Freeman's mind" fame to do someone in this series. Also freeman's mind is really good you should check it out ,it and its spinoffs like barny's mind and shepards mind fit so well in this universe

New intro is nifty! As soon as you said, "What's that" about the antlion, I thought, "He hasn't played Half-Life? Oh, he is going to be *so* confused." The big alien is a shock trooper and the little guy is a pit drone, both from the Opposing Force expansion to the first game. The Combine are the big bads of the second game and its episodes. The creepy thing from the basement is an enemy that was cut from the first game, I think it was called a kingpin. The guys in white skull helmets are "civil protection" forces, basically brainwashed humans working for the Combine. Dr. Breen is the human face of the Combine forces. Black Mesa was a research facility that experienced... *problems* with inter-dimensional portals that was apparently *planned* by... *someone.* Seriously, play the games.

Boss! You gotta play the Half Life series immediately! And for that matter, everyone! Recommend Gmod videos to him! That way Boss, you can be as cultured as I am!

I mean, "What if Gordon Freeman Talked" is a bitt of an internet classic that I checked out after getting randomly recommended an SFM video of him doing modern major general while killing spec ops. Edit: Freeman's Mind. The name escaped me at first.

Pit drone is my fav, no one should dare hurt the little creature. 🤣

Highly recommend the Freeman's Mind series by Accursed Farm. It's basically an LP of Half-Life 1 and 2 (2 is still in progress) but you here the inner thought of the main character Gordan Freeman and his gradual decent into paranoia. Or rather the OUTER thoughts of Gordan Freeman but nobody is listening lol. It'll also be a decent way too get into Half-Life's story without playing it.

You know… PERfectly well that you must now (inhale) _ex-perience_ the Half-Life… _games._ Missssster Old Man…

Bruva lives anew..... and I'm honestly waiting for this new show to reveal its potential. There was more promise in the first episode of Hunter the Parenting. I'm sure this will get better, but this was... meh. The start is atmospheric AF though, showing the totalitarian and occupied state of the world along with the many alien creatures that have ended up on earth. I actually don't know much about Half Life. I know a little, but not much. If HL3 somehow came out tomorrow, and I was one of the people who got an advance review copy, I might actually be able to give it an almost fair shake with fairly fresh eyes. I have no first hand experience. Waiiiiiiiit, is Bruva trying to make altered 'nid jokes? Because otherwise I am similarly clueless about a lot of alien lore specifics regarding the lore of Half Life. So the Combine officer rag dolling is basically 1:1 for when they die in the game. So, important thing to note, Half Life Barnacles aren't like normal barnacles IRL. Ours are little nuisances who accumulate on hulls, dams, wharfs, etc. THESE barnacles are ambush predators who lurk on ceilings and use a long tongue/tentacle to lift up prey as big as a grown man and devour it. If you want a rundown in detail about Xen, the Black Mesa incident, the Combine, the Resistance, how Aperture Science fits into the world, the messed up history of THAT pit of misapplied science, etc. there are much better places tto get a detailed and researched summary from. TLDR: Black Mesa, a government research base, was zapping a weird rock, accidentally/was tricked into opening the door to an extra dimensional "border world" Xen that sent their various shock troop races into the facility until 1 Dr. Gordon Freeman took out the leader of Xen in a 1 man counterattack amidst a fustercluck of black ops, aliens, and panicked civvies/scientists. He triggered the base's nuclear self destruct, was taken away by a man in a suit. Except, funny thing.... nuking the site with all thte dimensional breaches ended up letting in another extra dimensional alien invasion in the form of the Combine who proceeded to annihilate conventional military forces world wide in a blitz that was terrifyingly short and effective. So they rule over earth as they strip its resources, oppressing humans and aliens from Xen equally. After a few years, the man in the suit pulls Gordon out of the freezer and dumps him into one of the Combine controlled cities to once again be the wrong man in the right place at the right time. Cue beloved sequel with action and then innovative mechanics and ends in a cliffhanger that has left people with narrative blue balls for 15 years. Oh, and Black Mesa survivors make up a good chunk of the resistance. So that's the short version. I assume this is a very unsafe way to weld. Is this correct? I am confused, not as confused as you, but very much so. I don't insist you play any of it. I do insist that you DON"T play Hunt the Freeman.

Yeah because people (and even Alfa him/themselves) have brought it up, I HIGHLY recommend you check out Ross Scott's Freeman's Mind series.

Either watch Ross Scott’s “Freeman’s Mind” series, or play “Half-Life: Black Mesa” and then play Half-Life 2 and then Half-Life Alyx if you want more context. Or just keeping watching this blind. That might be funnier
