Here's an interesting detail I noticed while watching this: For those who are wondering why the scientist runs away in fear in 5:09 and not in 1:04, it's because if Gordon kills a friendly NPC the AI system of the scientist recognizes Gordon as an enemy. So basically the scientist reacts as if he saw an enemy like the Alien Grunt.

Bas Feijen, Deadlines. The game was already delayed and I dont think they had enough time to polish it even more. Remember that the final game was completely different than the "original" half life.

Almost always because the feature is causing an unintended interaction somewhere and they don't have time to fix it, so they cut the feature instead.

These videos just make me appreciate Valve more. Strangely enough as graphics have gotten more realistic, touches of detail and actual signs of care have dissapeared. Maybe because back then it also took extreme effort to get something to look like this? Or is it that less companies have cared?

I wouldn't say the graphics are realistic, but they're still great. A lot of people would call graphics like this "bad" just because it's old, but I think there is a unique artistry to this style. I didn't grow up with these games so this isn't nostalgia talking, I genuinely believe this.

@@HOTD108_ same here. While I wasn't even born when this game came out, I became a huge fan anyway. The game isn't attempting to look as realistic as possible from what I see. It's pretty cartoony in places.

There was a great third-party mod mission where you have to escort two scientists to safety through the complex. Their fear/follow/panic behaviours made it...challenging. Like herding cats through a firefight.
