Chapter 5: Exit 17
After making their way through a zombie-infested hospital, Gordon and Alyx reunite with Barney, who has successfully led a large group of Resistance fighters to the doorstep of the train station. With the Combine just a few minutes behind, our heroes must escort the last evacuees safely to the trains and catch a ride themselves before the Citadel blows, in the final chapter of Episode One.

Notes:
- There are many supply crates hidden in the train station parking lot, I didn't show all of them (1:00)
- Between escort runs, Gordon can replenish his pulse ammunition for the OSIPR by revisiting the room at 1:41 - at least one pulse round always seems to respawn in there
- Gordon can man the turret that Alyx uses to defend the entrance to the loading area. Alyx will let him use it, and return to her position after he leaves (2:28)
- If Gordon continues to stay in the trainyard instead of following Alyx and Barney after all the citizens have been escorted, Shotgun soldiers will start infinitely spawning, 2 at a time (11:16)
- The Strider at 13:00 serves as the final boss of the game and behaves notably differently than its HL2 counterparts. It has a faster fire rate with its pulse cannon (though slightly less damaging per shot), doesn't "walk" its fire towards Gordon, and uses its Warp Cannon much more frequently to try to kill Gordon. Its Warp Cannon also doesn't seem to be as powerful, compared to the one in HL2 that took apart building walls
- The metal wall panels at 15:05 WILL fall off if shot enough times by the Strider. This is to keep Gordon moving and prevent him from staying in one spot for too long
Trivia:
- Barney seems to have been involved in an "altercation" with a Civil Protection officer right before Gordon and Alyx showed up (0:40)
- The citizens that Gordon helps evacuate seem to be coming from a locked door behind Calhoun (3:13)
- The fighter at 1:54 will continue to shoot at infinite-spawning manhacks and City scanners until all the citizens are successfully led to the trains. As Gordon makes more and more trips back to this room he will be able to observe more fighters ontop of the train
- The .357 Magnum is the last weapon to be procured by Freeman in this game (2:14)
- The first and only time Gordon defeats an APC with the RPG (7:15)
- The last time Gordon fights Civil Protection in the HL2 saga, as well as the only time Gordon fights them in this game (9:17)
- The last time Barney Calhoun is ever seen in a Half-Life game thus far (12:14). It is unknown if he and the rest of the evacuees survived the Citadel blast, although I would assume so as they had a good 5 minute headstart on Gordon and Alyx
- At 18:00 a portal seems to be opening at the top of the Citadel, in a similar manner to the final chapter of HL2 where the Dark Fusion Reactor was used to try to open a portal into the Combine homeworld
- The Advisors in the pods at 18:20 and 18:25 attack Gordon and Alyx again with their psychic powers
- An unused animation of the Citadel visibly exploding into fragments is shown in this video, though I am unable to confirm if this is actually in the game files:

I honestly love how _loud_ the noises the citadel makes before exploding sound. Like they aren't actually loud in volume, but something about the reverb/echoes give off the effect that the entirety of city 17 and beyond can hear it preparing to go up in flames

Right? Imagine being one of the last citizens in City 17, unable to escape. Hearing that sound and realizing that the entire city is going to be obliterated must be terrifying.
Nobody: Alyx: “here we go, we did it Gordon” “here we go, we did it Gordon”

Watching the Citadel let out the transmission really gives off a "Beginning of the end." vibe.

I wonder if any Civil Protection that deserted their posts had actually managed to escape City 17 before the Citadel exploded.

Yeah, seeing as how even the Combine barely made it out. I'm assuming most of the CPs perished alongside the City

@@Sexy_Nutellawell, they went towards the train, they could of taken off the mask just to join their fellow Allies.
9:18 Honestly I feel pretty bad for these metrocops, cause they were so neglected by overwatch that they just had to take the train for themseleves. Though taking off their mask or civil protection uniforms, and begging the rebels for mercy in order to let them on the trains was probably would’ve been a better option for that group of Metrocops

Metrocops are collaborators who were beating up, killing and betraying citizens to have somewhat better life. Remember chapter "Route Kanal", where we can how those cops killed dozens of civilians who simply wanted escape the city. Or "Point Insertion", when we enter an interrogation room full of blood of people who were less lucky then Gordon. They've got what they deserved.

Yeah, I remember being caught off-guard at how frequently it used the cannon.
I've watched Austin Powers too many times. As soon as Barney said, "There you are.", I felt it necessary to say, "Do I know you?"
"Gordon and I will draw their attention" How kind and mindful of you to always take the initiative, Alyx... I dislike that woman so much. When someone asked her "So uh is that your boyfriend". No, please, take her!

I do remember being annoyed that Alyx basically volunteers Freeman for every dangerous task in the episodes. Freeman's internal dialogue is probably similar to what you said lol

Lol now that you said that I can only imagine how Freeman's mind is going to be in the episodes if and when it reaches that point
The fact that this is the last time we see barney in the game (Because we don't see him on Ep 2) is something to worry about. I sometimes think they managed to escape of the citadel's explosion, but the combine anyways ambushed them, despite Alyx saying the Combine is after Gordon, not Barney and the citizens, that could be in some way wrong. Unless they say anything about all of them in Ep 2 that I didn't listen to.

I think Barney had a cut line in Ep2 where he congratulates Gordon for making it to White Forest. But it was cut from the final game. That being said I'm sure Barney's still alive, he's way too cool of a character for Valve to just kill him off

A short but very fun game. I enjoyed seeing how you handled it, loved..prety much all of it. Just fun and epic. Look forward to watching the remaining vids before i'm all caught up. You know..with the skill and effort you put into videos..I know Half life is your thing, but if you wanted to, i'd support you putting out..any kind of game you wanted to show. You deserve that :)

Thanks for the support! Half-Life is the only series of games where I think I'm enough of a fan to know inside out, which is why I am so comfortable making videos of it. That being said I've always thought about making videos for other games I'm a huge fan of (F.E.A.R., Resident Evil 4, stuff like that). However, given my slow pace in uploading, I also realize those might be giant undetakings and I need to make sure I have enough time to do them all haha.

Maybe! Im just focusing on finishing EP2 for now. Not sure what I'll do after. I do love both those games though :)

I was trying to get the one bullet achievemnt and I knew I would have trouble with this. It's even worse. I have to use grenades if I don't want to run to them. The APC keeps killing me while I'm behind cover.

Other than that, it's been going smoothly. Hospital section was rough. The strider battle was also more fun becahse I recognized the layout but the poison headcrabs were terrible.
