Half guard Attacking System **DON’T BE ONE DIMENSIONAL**

Фильм және анимация

If you are subscribed you know I have been studying half guard quite a bit recently, specifically the development of our leg attacks out of the half guard position. Once we develop strong leg attacks our opens will respect them, and when they do they open up opportunities for us to attack their upper body. I believe the perfect way to do this is to start with a Kimura. It gives us sweep options and submission option. If the kimora fails, we can also wrestle up or go right back into the legs.
This strategy was used a lot by Gordon Ryan and during the most recent fight to win. I believe as the new era of athletes understand and respect the leg game more and more, Kimuras are going to develop as a great way to attack.
On the flip side, as the guard passer it is important to understand how to stay safe and prevent the Kimura entry. The easiest way to do this is to always have your palm facing the ceiling. This makes the kimura entry much less likely. So as you reach to pass the guard, make sure your palm faces the ceiling

    Man, I like that very first attack at the beginning of the video. He goes from half guard bottom pushing his top leg into the opponent's armpit and creating kuzushi while looking like he's attacking a kneebar on the far leg. When that fails, he removed his bottom leg from half guard and switched it with what was his top leg and backstepped with his bottom leg to enter into cross ashi. That was beautiful. Also, the Kimura is my favorite upper body sub besides chokes and something I use a lot. I just used it last night to sweep and take the back in training. Subscribed!

    Hey I'm a karate striker with good boxing. I've had amateur kickboxing fights but I'm transitioning to MMA now. I know I'm gonna run into guys that wanna take me down after taking a kick from me and I can't sprawl and brawl on all of them so I wanna know what guard I should focus on more than anything for MMA. Thanks in advance if you see this comment

    Hi Mark! Right on seems like an exciting transition. I made a video about this here kzread.info/dash/bejne/k5uc0KyIp8_Kaco.html but maybe go through the comments as well because the people in the community know their stuff. It seems like your goal is going to be to get back to your feet so I would say half guard would be a good option. Or anything where your feet are on the inside will make it easier to stand up

    Video idea: hierarchy of leg lock position. For example, I dont think anyone would argue outside sankaku is a more dominant position than standard ashi. But what about outside sankaku vs inside sankaku? Is one more dominant or is it preference based? How do we compare that to something like 50/50 where its really more about who knows the position better? How do we see backside 50/50 compared to something like a double outside ashi while holding the heel? Concepts of which hip you want to trap by gravity? Something down that route could be a cool video

    Hey brother not sure if I missed it but when you say to have our Palm up and not Palm down. Why is it that we are inviting a kimura if we are Palm down? This sounds like a very small detail that is going to make a huge difference. If you have a chance can you let me know please thank you

  • @LIMIBJJ

    @LIMIBJJ

    2 жыл бұрын

    You are exactly right! It’s a small detail that makes a huge difference so let me see if I can explain it well here: It you hold your hand out in front of you and draw a line from your fingers to your shoulder, your opponent would like your elbow on the outside of that line for them to enter into Kimura. If your elbow is on the inside of that line you are relatively safe. Now holding your hand out in front of you see how your elbow changes position as you turn your palm up vs down. If your palm is down it is very hard to bring your elbow inside that line where as when your palm is up it naturally goes there Hope that makes sense!

  • @MinhaFamiliaAQBJJ

    @MinhaFamiliaAQBJJ

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@LIMIBJJ hmmm i think i see what youre saying. It opens up the elbow when youre palm down. It leaves space to hook the kimura. As opposed to palm up my elbow goes inward closing that little hoop to get a kimura in. Is that what you mean right there? FYI im dyslexic brother so im a tad slower than most.

    @@freman75 I personally think the old leg lock DVD from Danaher is amazing and I think the new wave one will make a lot more sense if you start with the old one. The new wave is basically counters to the old stuff.
