Good idea. For me I tried this and realised it was way too harsh against my features and realised my skin wasn’t tanned and warm enough to pull it off. It make me look corpse like especially makeup free. My natural hair is an ashy 7-8 depending on season and I have cool toned skin.

Agreed! I'm naturally an auburn brown who's been dying my hair blue-black for 15yrs as well...it's just black now though 😂 I want that fresh blue shine in the light again, but I don't want to bleach it out, and I tried growing it out, but caved after about 3in of growth because it just felt wrong lol

Idk if people have pointed this out before, but I really appreciate that the screen grab Brad uses of the people with their final hair is always really flattering. Like even when it turns out a mess, the image he uses of them is still usually really cute. It's a really thoughtful touch and tells me he's actually cares about the other creators' feelings. ❤️

I went to black hair after my divorce from my husband out of rebellion because he preferred blondes!! I kept it black for about 10 years which was pretty because my eyes are light green. However, I finally got to a point where I wanted a change and being older, I thought the color was aging me. I found out just what it was going to take and the time and money to make the change would be. Because my hair was so damaged from trying to strip it multiple times myself...it smelled really bad and I couldn't get rid of the chemical smell!! When the pandemic hit I finally decided to cut it all off!! I found a good stylist who cut it into a pixie and the color was medium brown with a few highlights around the face. It looked really amazing and made my skin tone and eyes stunning!!

🙄 Black hair looks "pretty" with people who have dark features, dark eyes/skin etc too. And their dark hair is usually beautifully natural. Black hair is the most stunning to me. You can usually tell when a white person has fake black hair, so maybe that's why it "aged" you and it didn't suit you. Also, light features aren't better or prettier. When will you lot change?

My senior year of high school, I got some really crappy highlights and didn’t have the first clue about toning. My hair is medium brown, and those very heavy handed highlights were orange. So, when I first started college, I thought the best course of action was to dye my hair black to cover up the highlights. 🤦🏻‍♀️ It looked awful. A girl in my dorm went with me to Walmart to get a box of Color Oops. 🤦🏻‍♀️ She applied it for me and we left it on way too long. My hair felt like STRAW after. It was burnt. It was frizzy. It was like 6 shades of orange. It looked so absolutely horrible. And I was a broke college student having to choose between meals and laundry, so I certainly didn’t have money to spend $200 a hair salon. It just had heinous hair that whole year and kept trimming it until enough grew out. 🤦🏻‍♀️ That was 2005, before KZread. I feel like the day and age of internet at our fingertips, ignorance is inexcusable. 😆

I felt the part about hair color changing the outlook on life and the way people present themselves. I once wanted to get rid of my purple hair to go brown and it turned out as a very bright pink. I kinda liked it and decided to keep the color and combined it with cutting 5 or 6 inches off and it was the best decision I ever made. I believe that people‘s personalities need to fit the hair color they’re wearing and as a very striking color, you need to have the out-there personality to fit it. I experimented with colorful make-up, dramatic and graphic eyeliner, the whole package, and it was so fun. It helped me build up confidence and come out of my shell, find out more about myself. Now it has grown out and faded, giving the blonde beneath a strawberry tint, but I still look back to that time with happiness.

The box dye is likely formulated to have reds in it already so you don't have to go through the whole colour mixing thing yourself. And it has developer rather than just depositing colour. Most of the time, modern box dyes know what they're doing, but they typically have more peroxide than you'd need and potentially ammonia, as well as sulfates to allow for lathering, so on average, professional colours are gentler.

I might try mixing an orange or red the next time I re-dye it though. Don't know yet. Pretty happy with my current look. :) (Thank you for the luke warm water tip, though, Brad. Yeah, when she pulled out the level 4 color I said to myself "this is gonna be too dark." I feel it's better to go a little lighter than you want the color to be when you use a filler beforehand. You can always go a little darker if it's too light, but if it's too dark then you're either stuck or you have to bleach and start over, which 9 times out of ten will only make things worse.
