You are one of the very few board game reviewers that I trust because you just review and advocate for games that you genuinely enjoy and I want you to know that your opinion and thoughts matter. Thank you.

Heya! Well, thank you! I'm going to a game conference next week and have scheduled a game of this with six players. SO stoked for it! Thanks for commenting.

“Surprise of the year” for me too. I didn’t back this but wow, this looks so cool. It’s definitely on my GMT Fall Sale list now! I did take part in the GMT release extravaganza though. Mr. President was a no-brainer, I signed on with that way back when it was announced. I also got Flying Colors Under the Southern Cross, because I’ve always loved FC. Haven’t played either yet, my time is limited to a game of Banish the Snakes here and there. Hope all is well with you and yours. My lovely bride has had to go up to Wisconsin a few times to help care for her grandfather who’s now in hospice. We also had a tree fall on our house and damage our roof during the storm outbreak we had in the Midwest a few weeks ago. God is good though, so we’re content with whatever He’s providing for us. Thanks for the review, bless you bud!

Ah, my friend! I am sorry about your grandfather-in-law being on hospice. :(. I pray for you and him and your wife dealing with that. And then a tree falls on your house? Ouch! That sounds like a painful thing to repair (you doing the repairs yourself?) All that kinda makes gaming pale by comparison. Glad you at least banished a snake or two, but hpe you get get some Flying Colors in. I have no knowledge of it, so am very curious someday to hear what you like about it! Take care. God's blessings to you, my friend.

Super glad you covered this game!!! As you said, it desperately lacks coverage, for what seems to be an amazing play experience! And great coverage you provided, thank you! Now though, I am planning to get it, but to play it mainly only with my wife and I... hope it will still be fun

Heya! Thanks! Even though I didn't like it at two player, that doesn't mean you and your wife won't. :). Two player is basically four player but each player takes one of each side (English/Scottish)... it's perfectly servicable as a mode, I just like focusing on one side. Enjoy! Curious what you think of it when you get it. :)

Thanks for the review. I have my copy and I saved it to take on vacation in a couple weeks where I'll get to play with a full six. After seeing your enthusiasm for it, I can't wait.

Awesome! Hope you enjoy it like I have. Six players is a very sweet spot, the whole map is used. Still not a short game, but love that lots of the game is in parallel (the card selection) and the battling part, even though it's sequential, is still something interesting enough to pay attention to as all six players are going at it (and even then there are ways to parallelize portions of the Winter battle part. Enjoy! Thanks for commenting.

Admittedly i wish I'd done better at the example of play part. This game definitely deserves some love from better reviewers than me. So much fun.

Yeaahhh. At that "example of play" portion I was doing this, "Booooo! Booooo! BOOOOOOoooooooo!" And my family members went "Hisssssss" and my French neighbors were whistling...Others were throwing furniture from their decks. Even my dog had a stern look of disapproval upon her cute, little face. 'Thanks' for ruining my day, Tim!!! :P - On a serious note, I thought of you and your family yesterday and hope that all is going better, and well! -

@@hairbrainedgames3127 Ah, sounds like you have the healthy mindset for it all. And I shall continue to pray, for sure! Annnnnd, all is forgiven; or, at least, forgotten...The ice cream truck came by and all heads perked up, and disgruntled expressions upon faces transformed into smiles and hearty guffaws were heard all around, for the darkness had turned to light; the storm had passed. :P

Just found your channel. I limit myself to buying one new game per year. I have too many on my shelf of shame. But this sounds amazing. However, I need a game that has a card for the 1692 Glencoe Massacre when Clan Campbell enjoying free B & B massacred Clan MacDonald and stole all their horses and cattle. Woops, it's outside of the scope of Border Reivers. Scotts Game idea: From the Glorious Revolution (1688) to The Battle of Culloden in (1746). Subscribed.

Heya! Sorry to delay in responding. I saw your post on my phone and it stopped right at "I need a game that has a card that..." and I thought, "Cool, someone needs advice on a card game..." Then I read the rest of the post on the my PC and am absolutely laughing! "However, I need a game that has a card for the 1692 Glencoe Massacre when Clan Campbell enjoying free B & B massacred Clan MacDonald and stole all their horses and cattle. Woops, it's outside of the scope of Border Reivers. " That's definitely the funniest (albeit in real life, not for the MacDonald clan) segue ever! I await your Game Idea coming to fruition! I also applaud your restraint. Sincerely. Limiting to one new game a year is incredible. My wife would love if I were to adopt that principle. :) So what was least year's game? and what is going to be this year's game? Definitely interest piqued! :)

Aye. I generally don't put my low budget vids on BGG, but sometimes I do. It should be up there now (or whenever it's approved). I know the designer has done some convention sessions of the game and talked about recording them, hope he can do that at some point. Very worthy game. Thanks for you comment!

Would it be correct to say that this is a good introductory game for people with a little experience in board games? I really like the kind of game that, on first glance, looks overwhelming, but then after a few rounds, everybody is just flying through it, and it all ends up in a satisfactory game, with the added bonus of a sense of accomplishment. (Quite a run off sentence there.. sorry 😊 ) Thanks for the videos, really enjoying them!

Heya! I'm rather torn in how best to answer that. It's a good question. I'd say that the simultaneous card play itself is something that after the first round people will understand well. It'll be a pretty smooth, almost zen like experience after that. :) The trickier part is the parts between the card drafting, where there's a non-trivial amount of things to consider. Then again, the game is laid out well so even those parts, after the first couple times it becomes easier. I guess I'd say that people with a little experience *and* a reasonable amount of initial patience will do well with it. It's hard for me NOT to recommend it, it's so doggone fun. :) Anyway, THANKs for the comment, and don't worry, the run off sentence was quite logical and legible. :) Take care.

Thank you. I have had some nice experiences with this kind of thing. Cryo is a good example, Terraforming Mars turned out to be along those lines, a little surprisingly.. 7 Wonders, works well with family and people with only general game experience. It has been fun to teach that game, and then months or even years later, hear that it has become a stable at family gatherings, and everybody now owns a copy ;) I know it is considered a gateway game, but it can still seem overwhelming when all you have tried before is Pacheesi.

I was hoping for an overview of how to play the game but there's so much assumed knowledge here I found it almost impossible to follow. Back to the rules I think.

I bought the game based on this review, didn''t find any 'assumed knowledge', just used common sense and a bit of brain power. Heck, I got the gist of the game easily (and glad I did, it's one of the best games I've played in the last few years). Rulebook is online and probably best if you find this review impossible to follow.

Nod. Rulebook is how I started learning it. Maybe the more recent (albeit solo) gameplay overview from the folks at Hexed and Countered will be more helpful. kzread.info/dash/bejne/hYh2y5iJfKe6Z7g.html
