Gullah Jack is the "Hanged Man" in the " Hoodoo Tarot Deck "

I was born in New York City. My parents are from Charleston S.C. I would visit my grandparents every summer. During my visits I would be fascinated by the Gullah language. I would also hear stories of hags and other folklore. At that time I thought the stories were foolish talk and that the people in the south were backwards and being that I was from the big city I was more educated and advanced then them until I was allowed to stay down south with my grandparents when I entered the 5th grade. One night while I was asleep I felt a presence hover over my body. Within a second It felt like a ton of bricks landed on my body. I could not move or talk. The thing was crushing me into the bed with all it's weight. It also made a humming sound (like electricity). Finally after about a minute it released me and I felt like a broken old man. I told my grandmother and all the kids in the neighborhood about it. They said that a hag rode me. Since then all throughout my life I have had paranormal experiences. I see ghosts, I moved stars and I saw a black hole in the sky during the day with stars filled in it with a image of me in it and other experiences too long to mention here. I have learned to respect the stories I would hear from the people in the south and realized and respect that they were much wiser than we are today. Now at the age of 63 years old and a lifetime of soul searching, I believe there are hags and outer entities in this world and outside of it. I don't believe that my experience was a hag but of astral projection (I woke up just as my spirit returning returning to my body). These experiences have made me highly spiritual and I have learned and still learn about myself by going within. I now study ancient African history, metaphysics and the occult. I realize that religion is used as a means to control you spiritual and that black people are Gods who came down to have a human experience. The experiences you encounter in life are for lessons you need to learn and pay attention to. Don't take anything for granted. There are no co-incidents and everything happens for a reason. The people you encounter is life are there to push you forward (whether they are negative or positive).

My family in NC used to say a witch was riding you. As I got older it was called sleep paralysis. However I remember being very much aware and hearing that sound when it happened to me.

It's truly a blessing to hear from black historians about our history and spiritual culture. Enjoyed this. We need to preserve our ancestral culture and heritage.

My friend and I had heard about the boo hag from a Savannah ghost tour. We were riding our bikes on Tybee Island later that night when the moon was bright. We parked our bikes and went out to the beach. When we got back a single cat was sitting under the street light by a beach house. We laughed and shouted to the cat "come on out ya Ole boo hag" I kid you not two more cats walked up on either side of the first one just staring at us. The fear was electric. We unlocked our bikes as quickly as we could and took off. I'll never forget all those eyes looking back at me peering into my soul.

That is true, same with Celtics tradition of hanging a witches ball on the mantle of a room. Which is a mirror ball or an xmas ornament on a Christmas tree.

My grandma use to tell us if you point at a grave, stick your finger in the dirt...I'm from macon, ga. and can totally relate!

This is very interesting. I love to hear about our real history as indigenous people and the spiritual practice of ancient Africans that arrived and how it was mixed with the indigenous ones.

As a Kid the Hagg would ride my back often.. It happened a few times after I reached my 20's.. I could recall my saying never point my finger at a graveyard. We lived in Beaufort S.C. for a little while, My little brother Great Great Uncle was/is one of the most famous Root Dr. in the world.. Dr. Buzzard.

I used to hear my grandparents speak about Dr. Buzzard when I was a child, I thought I was a scare tactic until I was in my 40s. My grandfather wasn't as old as him but they lived on the same island.

I am from Charleston South Carolina and i would be lying in bed and all of sudden i would feel something get on top of me, i would be screaming with all my might, and eyes wide open, i would be looking at my sister across the room. She wouldnt budge. I would ask if she didnt hear me screaming once it was over, and she would say no. This would happen at least once a week. After this i did change, i started peeing the bed, i was depressed, out of five kids, i was THAT child, the loner that the family felt they had to treat delicately. This is when i was 6. i am 32 now, and like after 9, it went away. Well, at least i think it did. My mother said it was a hag when I was younger

@Benjamin Leverett our Gullah Geechee background calls for us to have somewhere for the wayward spirits of our Ancestors that was lost at sea to have somewhere to go...so we hung blue Indigo bottles in the trees to give them somewhere to rest....

😭 it took me this long to figure this out. My father is the first of his family from south Santee. Never met my grandmother. Still not sure who my grandad is if he’s still alive. But I went to stay with my auntie before she passed and I remembered laying next to my sister and I was attacked. It’s was like something grabbed me by my throat and levitated me and all I could do was look at my sister. She didn’t remember a thing. But I’ve felt different ever since that day

Its a mixture of both various indigenous tribes of america and africa that came to be 1 through ethnogenesis creating gullah geechee..aka Afro seminole creole, or sea island creole, it's a mixture.

My grandmother used to tell me these stories. We’re Gullah

My grandmother was from NC she always told me ghost stories from back home. And she believed in so many superstitions when other people thought she was crazy and said she summoned spirits

Finally I have the answer my mother was raised by her grandmother and she used to point at graves and she always had to bite her finger she died not knowing the answer I’m glad I found it out

As someone who was born and raised in the low country of Georgia (southeastern Georgia), I had a haint or hag ride me plenty of times.... And when I tell y'all there is nothing you can do about it. Like the lady said your body is paralyzed IT IS TRUE............and the energy is HEAVY!

“Follow me for thy soul will reap” that is what I was told in a dream. There were dark figures swirling around and round saying that line over and over. When I came to I couldn’t move my body. I couldn’t move my mouth. I was screaming but nobody could hear me. I couldn’t open my eyes. I was so scared I was crying. When I could finally move I went to my dad for help. He said he didn’t hear me. I’m from Williamsburg Iowa in the US. I don’t know Iowa’s history or why that happed to me. I had many paranormal things happen to me in that town. Someone touched my shoulder but nobody was there. At that time I was invoked with a black guy who is from Congo. I could feel him pulling me from other rooms.

When I was a child in the 1950's, a neighbor called me a haint on many occasions - to the point that my grandmother had a talk with her. She never called me that to my face again. I know that my maternal grandparents came from Georgia/ by way of Virginia. My paternal grandparents came from N. Carolina and S. Carolina by way of Barbados. I have 10% Angolan ancestry with 33% Nigerian. My grandmother's sister used (dust) to try to control people and things but I never found out how or why.

I can see that there are probably lots of restless spirits there. That’s what makes us anyway our spirits and what’s in the inside.

Love the energy fam! But I wanted to share my thoughts being Gullah Geechee ancestors really didn’t have voodoo, or Orisha like shango. We used hoodoo, juju, obayi, and rootwork. We had “hag” control and high John the conqueror, and Queen nanny as our spiritual guides. North American southern blacks really have some the most potent spiritual science around. Voodoo is a religion we didn’t really have connection to. But we certainly had spiritual power using the Four Fist of spirit aka hoodoo/juju/rootwork/obayi
