I think its crazy that people will throw the 80 race winless streak out without saying that Bowman had injury issues during that time and was rushed back way too early. And we talk about him like he wasn't a nose away from winning the 500. The comment was witty and considering the amount of hate he gets, I think it was completely deserved.

I really think the problem is Deegan just lacks the talent to compete at that level. However if you fallow Deegan at all you know her BF Chase Cabre really does have some talent and I think he is the one who should be put into a Truck or Xfinity ride.

You're right, context matters. And you left out the context that both of Bowman's last 2 seasons were ruined/marred by serious injury. And when he got both those injuries, he was doing really well at the time. He also had to break in a new crew chief during all that, and his cold streak happened simultaneously to William Byron finally having his breakout season after being pretty underwhelming for 4 years straight. I absolutely love Bowman's attitude. Since he last won, he's missed races due to injury on TWO separate occasions. How many other drivers have had to deal with that? He drives the 4th Hendrick car, which has been the privilege of such racing luminaries as Casey Mears, Brian Vickers, and dark days Dale Jr. over the last two decades. He's won more races than Kasey Kahne did in the 5. And is it a coincidence that he's "backed into" a win 5+ times over his career? Not to mention he's one of a tiny handful of drivers who still has a loyal, full-season sponsor. NASCAR fans take it so freaking personally when a driver doesn't perform to the level they "should" be performing at. Just appreciate a fun win by a driver who makes the Cup field more enjoyable to watch.

I think with Bowman, we also need to take into account his back injury last year. It was pretty clear he came back before fully recovering last season as he has run more consistently this year. Still the 4th best Hendrick car most weeks, yes, but that’s still been good enough for top 10s most weeks and as long as you’ve got top 10 speed, you can capitalize on good luck. We also have to keep in mind Jr. basically hand-picked him for that car when it was the 88, so he’d probably have to lose Ally funding (unlikely as they seem happy with him) have some young driver REALLY impress at JRM in XFinity, or do horrible for multiple seasons in a row for Hendrick to drop him.

If you sit 20th on back, you're probably going to wind up in wrecks at some point, especially if you're battling like it's the lead. Last year she was in a championship-capable truck rarely running top 15 in a series with only 12-15 competitive drivers. Sometimes she gets wrecked through no fault of her own, but we're four years in and she hasn't progressed and we can't blame other drivers for that. Didn't Hailie have a couple, maybe three times the car had issues? I think the 15 lost a cylinder twice due to ignition problems and once she ran out of fuel due to a late call by the crew chief. I think she was also spooked by being involved in a lot of wrecks and chose to run at the back with a late run to move up. Because she had a massive public image I think it may have been too much pressure on her to perform and was somewhat distracted. I am not making excuses but pointing out some reasons for her lack of success in Xfinity. She has shown some good results in the SRX series and good finishes in some road course series. Did you notice that most of the KZread thumbnails now only show her frowning and disheveled?

Here's an out of the crowd comment as a Hailie Deegan fan. I think the radio chatter from the Xfinity race at Chicago says a lot. Remember, The current crew chief was asking Joey Logano how to adjust on the car (Legit). Logano who was running 12-16th all race had to legit coach the crew chief since the team didn't know how to adjust on the car. If you're getting the same thing with Hailie Deegan, then how can you put most of the blame on Deegan? I'd argue the blame is 50/50. Also, part of me believes that Deegan decided to leave on her own terms, because the crew chief and Deegan just didn't communicate well. And when you don't communicate well, thats when the entire team, Deegan included, doesn't perform as expected.

Logano who was running 12-16th all race had to legit coach the crew chief since the team didn't know how to adjust on the car. Note the, "Logono who was running 12-16th all race had to legit coach the crew chief..." All drivers earn their rides by KNOWING what a car needs. They learn this through experience. Experience the Deegan was lacking. Sad, because I too was among the hopefuls for her in her career. Maybe she does need to step back and try again. No. Not maybe. She definitely does!

Eric, I love your channel and I think your take on Bowman is mostly right, but a win is a win. Bowman has been running reasonably well during this season and he is the only driver in the four car team that has endured a crew chief change. In a 4 car stable like Hendrick there are days when a top ten doesn't look like much when you have guys winning 3,4, or 5 races by mid season. Yeah yesterday was a sloppy mess with weird circumstances, but all the other Hendrick cars were crap and Bowman through great strategy and good driving was able to stifle the JGR beat down. Yes there was luck involved, but look at Logano last week. No one is questioning his season being back on track after his lucky win in weird conditions.
