@sassycrbwlk2724 Жыл бұрын
Most realistic reaction to hail completely destroying your car outta nowhere 😅 hence the reason I always pull over if the rain is coming down hard enough to block the view only a few feet ahead. Better to have hail hitting the car while it’s idle than adding even more speed of impact by continuing to drive.
@sassycrbwlk2724
Жыл бұрын
Also, little tip for anyone that gets stuck in the middle of a hail storm, if you wanna keep your front and rear windshield as intact as possible then make sure to keep a thick blanket or something in the car so that you can quickly cover the windshields to save them from any major damage. That way you’re able to drive off after the storm has passed instead of having to call for a tow. 🥲 For me personally I keep a snow shield cover and a sun shield mat to stack on top of each other, sun mat goes underneath the snow cover since the snow cover has extra length on the ends to close the doors on it to keep it in place! Hopefully that made sense, I’m not entirely sure what the two shield things are called but I’m sure y’all get the picture lol.

"Well... this has been a great car." Sadly, even if relatively low milage, with all the body and glass damage done by that hail, you're looking at a repair bill easily worth more than that 9th gen Impala. Even if old, having a perfectly good car ruined by a hail storm is a lousy reason for having to buy a new car. Back in 2009, I had a 2008 Acura TL (less than a year old) and it got caught in a pretty big hail storm (though nothing like this video), the total damage was over 12 grand, though it didn't get totaled-out because it was only a year old and worth considerably more. Hail storms suck.
@hoovershayla
2 жыл бұрын
That sucks! I had friend back in Phoenix back 2010 that had her new Kia less than a month old that had her car totaled out too. The car in the video I still drive to work almost everyday especially when there’s a chance of storms. I bought it for $3500. Back on 2017 and my insurance gave me $4000.00 for it less my deductible and bought it back for 1,090.00 from them.
@smakfu1375
2 жыл бұрын
@@hoovershayla Ha! That's great that the car is still rolling. I'm assuming you fixed the glass work, but it's still kinda dimpled like a golf ball? On my Acura, the body work to get rid of all the dents was at least 70% of the cost.

I don’t get why you’d be speeding through that kind of hail storm to begin with? You should’ve pulled over the minute your windshield first cracked. If it blew out while you were driving you could’ve seriously injured someone else. You can be reckless all you want, but the minute it puts others at risk you cross the line

@@keatonvanmontfort7093 you will agree that once hailstones exceed 3 inches or bigger it can end up smashing glass to pieces
In case this happens again, maybe buy a heavy duty, fitted car shade for the front & rear windshields. They'll hopefully prevent glass shards from getting everywhere once deployed. I think there are two main manufacturers of them - Coverquest and Weathertech.

Guess chevy didn't win the JD power award for hail-proof windows
The windscreen wipers really helped with visibility
The windshield usually has a double structure, but nature is scary if it breaks with hail.
Most realistic reaction to hail completely destroying your car outta nowhere 😅 hence the reason I always pull over if the rain is coming down hard enough to block the view only a few feet ahead. Better to have hail hitting the car while it’s idle than adding even more speed of impact by continuing to drive.

You held it together alot better than I would. Id of frickin lost my mind. My truck is the only thing that makes me happy. AND of course you had a full tank of gas🤣

Believe me, I understand the frustration, anger, and expletives! Hail can destroy your vehicle! And, windshield replacements aren't cheap!
"Well... this has been a great car." Sadly, even if relatively low milage, with all the body and glass damage done by that hail, you're looking at a repair bill easily worth more than that 9th gen Impala.

You got to think about the resistance though, two large objects colliding with each other at high speed. Seems like it would completely shatter the windshield and then he'd be completely exposed.
Did the glass crack because of the hail?
I'm assuming the insurance totaled it.

Guys if you get caught up just park out of the lane if possible and shield yourself with anything you got in the car by coverring the windshield hanging it over the rear view mirror and securing its sides anyhow possible like using side windshields, if nothing was available then hanging any clothing you got on will work just fine.. you just need to protect yourself from shattered glass

I don’t get why you’d be speeding through that kind of hail storm to begin with? You should’ve pulled over the minute your windshield first cracked. I watched one of these videos earlier, someone in Colorado earlier this year had the same thing happen. Tore their Corolla up the exact same way. Severely spidered the windshield like that and busted out their back glass completely. Just horrible.
Sorry, but the writing was on the wall - stop & turn right 75 degrees. No cost.
we bought a superglass thing and if the glass breaks you just apply it and it will be like new but with crack and it will not shatter!
