There are so many amazing coastal roads in Vietnam. Hai Van is popular because most tourist are only in Da Nang for a few days. So it is a quick & easy ride to do. Wait until you do the North side, amazing rides there.

While I visited Vietnam in January 2020 I stayed in DaNang as a base but actually visited Hue and Phu Bai which were places that I served while in the US Army 101st Airborne Division. Because I visited those areas looking for certain things from my time while serving, I drove the Hai Van Pass 4 times round trip. It is one of the most fun rides that I have had because of the elevation and also the views of the coast are unbelievable. Seeing those pristine beaches were awe inspiring. Nice job again Gabi.

It’s funny now that it’s a tourist attraction. When I lived in vietnam as a child, I kept hearing people talked about how dangerous it was because of the narrow roads. Hai Van Pass or đèo Hải Vân as we call it felt so dangerous to me as a child but now it looks so beautiful. Hải = ocean. Vân = clouds. You’re so high up that you can almost “touch” the clouds.

@@ridewithgabi Vietnamese people as well as Vietnamese police are very friendly with foreign tourists. Vietnamese police rarely (almost never) arrest foreign tourists if you go by motorbike. If you don't have a motorbike license when the police arrest you, you can ask them to let you go if you speak Vietnamese.

@@ridewithgabi you should have started from the North. The South is mostly flat and doesn’t have dramatic scenery. The South is famous for beaches (Phu Quoc), river life (Mekong delta), sand dunes. The North is famous for dramatic mountains, caves, massive rivers and lakes. If you start from the North, you head South you can relax on the beach, it makes more sense than the other way around as people tend to get lazier towards the end of the trip

Does anyone know how difficult it is to do the trip from DaNang to Hue (via Hai Van Pass) by bicycle? Am heading to DaNang late November (I realize it is the rainy season) and wonder if it would even be possible at that time (early December). Also, how hard is it to rent a decent bike in DaNang and is it easy to get a bike back from Hue to DaNang via public transportation (I'd only want to bike one way). Have been searching the net, but can't find much information about doing this trip by bicycle... only by motorbike. Thanks for any information.
