Hadley Jo & service dog Ariel prepare for first day of school at VIPS

The first day of school can be a stressful time, especially for a child with special needs. Four-year-old Hadley Jo and her service dog, Ariel are getting some special lessons to be prepared for the big day. The Jefferson County Public Schools’ Transportation Department is giving Hadley Jo and Ariel a chance to practice riding the bus to Visually-Impaired Preschool services, an agency supported by the WHAS Crusade for Children.

    To everyone saying stuff about the dog not being ready. This is why they are PRACTICING!

    What they meant was the child needs more bonding and at home work with the dog so they can be comfortable together. Yes this is a practice run but you can tell this dog does not trust the child. In order to be a functional team you must have trust. ❤️

    I'm not trying to judge but I thought service dogs for seizures are supposed to try to position themselves as a pillow or in a way that makes it comfortable and safe for the person's head , not lay on top of them?

    not necessarily, there are various ways someone may want their dog to respond during a seizure. That is one, but another way is to get help. some seizure patients can have medication given via injection or rubbed in the mouth...or even nasal spray that can make the seizure stop in minutes. That is why the dog is trained to "warn other around her something is happening" ...when a child or even an adult comes out of a seizure they can be frightened, disoriented, or have a panic attack. This is where the dog will calm the handler down with DPT (deep pressure therapy) by laying on the person.

    It's not safe to do that on dogs and laying on top prevents choking and suffocating to death

    A service dog shouldn't pull a handler, better yet a child.

    I Don't see the dog pulling honestly. The dog still looks like a puppy and the child is still learning how to handle the dog Being so young.

    Only in the very beginning and it didn't harm her, Though I wanted to point it out because it was a pretty hard pull. 0:11

    Guys, the dog isn’t fully trained, of course it’s nervous, it’s in a new environment still training, it’s a simulation, this is part of the process, they don’t train themselves! They’re going to make plenty of mistakes at first.

    That dog doesn’t seem fully ready and that kid is too young to even handle a dog alone

  • @rachelc5728
    @rachelc57282 жыл бұрын

    That's a nervous dog. In the immense amount of training before a dog goes "active" they learn different environments and generally adapt almost instantly to each new environment. Especially this environment, lots of adults, new smells and little girl who's not really touching the dog. This is a very typical type of environment for a Service dog to experience daily. They really need to slow down and focus on the bond building with the girl and whoever will be handling the dog. You cannot put a dog solely on her, an adult needs to be with the leash also.

    To all the people saying mean stuff; I have a service dog. But what I am seeing in this video is a little girl dragging a service dog around. In my opinion service dogs should not be placed with children. If a kid needs the dog then someone else needs to handle it

    That dog has not been trained properly I’m sorry but as a service dog handler if I say that dog in public while with my dog it would scream fake to my tbh
