The health benefits of Cissus quadrangularis scientifically or hadjod (Hindi) or pirandai (Tamil) are remarkable beyond being a calcium rich food vegetarian or vegan system followers can use.
The claims of Cissus quadrangularis medicinal uses in traditional medicine are very well validated by modern science and are much more than being one of the non dairy calcium rich foods. The calcium along with other plant phytochemicals results in the almost miraculous speeding up of Cissus quadrangularis broken bones healing.

"sadly lost many valuable pieces of our heritage" - One of my friends visited the places in S. Africa where the Tamils and others follow our customs but lost the connections with their motherland. It is important to keep this connection alive by visiting, and inviting the other relatives, etc. The westerners come to India, learn our age old methods of healing and market it big time. Yoga is one such thing. Growing up, nobody paid for Yoga, except in the cities. It was freely taught from generation to generation. People go to India, learn for a few months and get a certificate. Then it has grown to a billion dollar industry!!

I have 2 varieties of this plant from many years. We use the crushed plant mixed with turmeric and apply it on the inner wounds, sprains etc. My ayurvedic doctor told me he uses the paste of it mixed with turmeric as some ointment. Also we can dip it in the gram floor mixture and fry it. It is enjoyed as snacks. Thank your for sharing🙏🌷

Thanks Madam for this vedio. In Sri Lanka we call it " Heerassa " I was looking for how to eat it. I was experiencing bad earaches from time to time in my childhood. Once My mother put two or three drops of coconut oil to this stem . Slightly heated it from coconut oil lamp and put it to my ear. It got healed . 20 years later one gentleman told me that if you use this for earaches will never return. Then only I realized that was the last time i had painful earache. 😊

I got a cutting of this plant, pather chattarpur, Bramhi, from my gardener friends, unfortunately after keeping for an year, multiplying, sharing with others, but never used, finally gave all away. Lack of knowledge n usage are just ornamental plants for city people like us

@@sunitachandra7736 we make chutney (thick paste for mixing it with hot rice and ghee) out of it. All you need is about 5 inch tubers of about five or six pieces. Joint should be cut and removed. Fry this in sim with little oil till it cracks and changes colour. Then fry in little oil the following one by one and remove keep it aside. 1/2 spoon black pepper, ginger 2 inches without skin, urid dhall 3 spoons till turns little brown, curry leaves hand full, grated coconut 200 grams. Now grind all the above by adding little asafoetida and salt to taste. Add water in small quantity to make it a thick paste. Also goes with idli, dosa, chappathi, curd rice. Prepare and enjoy the taste.

It's good for digestion and digestive system. To some extent helps to flatten belly. We regularly prepare chutney (paste), mix it with ghee in hot rice and eat. Very delicious. Rich in calcium and minerals. Before preparing any dish out of it fry it in little oil after removing the joints till it becomes pale and starts cracking. One piece is enough to grow in pots. Simply put the joint portion in the soil slightly slanting and put little water regularly and it grows. .

Wow! I took a bit of the stem on my way for a walk from someone's garden and grew it for its aesthetic beauty, they had like a curtain of it in their verandah. A Few months later when I walked the same way, the plant was no longer there, so I asked them. They said they were fed up of it and uprooted the entire plant.. I was so happy that I had it already growing, didn't tell them though, it's a very rare plant and not seen it anywhere else, now I will especially go, show them the video, and give them a piece of the plant. Thanks for this amazing information.😊
