He is better off being Catholic. Typical orientalist self-proclaimed sheikh. In classical Arabic munkaser has to do with humility rather than brokenness as in contemporary usage. So it's humble-hearted, not broken-hearted.

This isn't a hadith Qudsi.. and per your link, it seems this is most likely an Imam Shaf'i quote.
