I would like to know how Nyx had the power to do that and how it bound Zag to the underworld. I also wonder if she did the same to Hades. Maybe the original myth tells this, but I want to know how he's bound to it and why. Also, apologies for the late reply; KZread is not sending me notifications of replies as of late.

Charon is a smart business man. Charon is sent Skelly to train Zagreus to get through the multiple layers of Hades. Specifically, Charon wants to have Zagreus as a constant customer. In order to pass through the multiple layers of Hades, Zagreus will occasionally come across Charon’s shop, approximately seven in the entire game, and not to mention, the smaller Charon wells in certain chambers.

It was actually very, VERY obvious who sent Skelly in there from the start. The Clue was always there: The coin in Skelly's Mouth, aka "Charon's Obdol". It is the "fee" the dead pay the Ferryman (Charon) to get a ride across Styx, but since Skelly still has his means that Charon hasn't taken his fee yet as he has a "task" for Skelly to do before he is done with him.

I like how the game alludes to Charon's enigmatic status in mythology. Charon has always been associated with the chthonic gods despite never being explained. He's just the boatman. Charon isn't born from another chthonic god either like Thanatos or Hypnos are. It's like Charon was always there. Like there couldn't be an underworld without him. And yet he acts as though he's just doing a job. He doesn't have a deal with Hades or any other god, he's just the boatman. People respect him because he does his job well, and they don't mess with him, presumably because if they did he could take them to Tartarus. In the game Charon feels similar to Chaos, in that he assists Zagreus from a neutral perspective. The gods assist him because they want something from him, but the only want Charon ever seems to show is a want for money. Charon just wants to be payed for his job. Maybe Charon is doing his job by helping Zagreus. Perhaps Charon recognizes that the family needs Zagreus to escape, and so he uses his surprising amount of power to help that goal. I love Charon. I almost immediately got him to max hearts, and I just wanted to honor the character with this little comment analysis.

I love that this is, like, 100 hours into the game, too. And Skelly is such a minor character. They didn't have to do this. They did it because they truly care about their work and enjoy it. It's why Supergiant is the very best developer out there.

Actually, Charon was asked, since there's dialogue when you talk to Persephone that mentions how she had been given Charon's calling card when she left the underworld, and used it when preparing to come back.

He probably had a vested interest in it but really Zagreus is the ***PERFECT*** repeat customer. He's always trying to escape and where does he inevitably end up with all those obals? Right at Charon's shop. When he gets to the surface? Those Obals are going to come back to him. In exchange for a skeleton that enjoys getting the marrow beat out of it to practice on, he's always got money in his pockets.

If you meet Hermes while using his Tooth, this dialog plays differently. They don't go "tell me", "no" over and over like hat, Skelly just says he's not snitching on his sources/contractors. After Hermes notes you're carrying a Tooth, which, "considering the overall weird circumstances, it's pretty weird, is it your own tooth?", Zag can talk to Skelly about that chat and he's gonna act up nervous about it and ask Zag to not out this info to anyone

Hades has nothing to do with secrets, except when it's important. He only lied to Zagreus about his mother because he was too worried about Olympians' reactions. He lied in order to protect the Underworld and other Chthonic Gods.

Charon is a betting man, I see.

I bet Charon was so psyched when he gave Persephone and Zag a ride back home, especially after seeing Zag repeat the route so many times.

Ok so I've never played hades, i just know of it cause i like Greek mythology so it was naturally in my radar, plus i really like the soundtrack and listen to it from time to time, but i clicked on this just out of curiosity and was NOT PREPARED FOR HOW ATTRACTIVE ZAGREUS VOICE WAS

I'm probably never going to get to this dialogue so seeing this was VERY satisfying

For me I always carried Skellys gift, the tooth, and when I interacted with Hermes he brought up the tooth and it made me think "maybe its Hermes who hired the bone lad" nah its fuckin Charon

Yeah Hermes would have made sense as well since he is the bridge between the two realms. But since he and Charon are so closely linked I would imagine they plotted it together.
