Hack to Reset Norcold limit switch

Please SUBSCRIBE if you find this info useful. Im not a monitored channel so I make nothing from this just want SUBS. Someone in the resort soaked their RV fridge with rinse water after a dust/rain storm and caused the Norcold fridge to error out with a high temp limit switch open error. This saved our trip! Going out to see family in California and we were about to head home. First our truck broke down and we were stranded for 4 days in an rv park. Then the high power sprinklers managed to spray water into our fridge vent. We were in a small town at this point so we had no where to get it fixed. Thank you so much for showing this! It is the only reason we are still going to CA.

I went through three of these limit switches over several years when I would go to a service repair shop for the recall. I finally bought one on Amazon that came with a plastic cover to help keep water off the board. That was about three years ago. Better than the factory type they give you on a recall. Helpful video!

What a life saver! I spent all morning doing meal prep to bring out to the RV tonight. After dinner we noticed the inside light was out and then noticed the whole thing was off. Thank goodness it was super cold today after a huge storm came through last night. We found the red light and searched KZread for ideas... where we found you! Luckily we found a magnet in our barn and was able to easily fix the problem! Saved all the food plus the pain and cost of taking it in to a dealer (which none are open tomorrow - Sunday and we go back to the city on Mondays so would’ve been totally screwed). Thank you SO MUCH for posting... and thank your wife for finding the answer on the Internet (like we did)! Safe travels! Steve, Marie & our pups Buddy & Kramer!

So many people on here stating this work but I'm confused on how this can be. We tried the magnet several times and it did nothing. My wife and I cannot thank you enough for this video. Our fridge went out two weeks ago. You guessed it, we had our rig washed and detailed. As soon as the workers left, we notice the fridge had no power. I was sure we threw a breaker or blew a fuse due to water. The breakers were fine, and I checked every fuse three times. No blown fuses. In Branson, I set an appointment with mobile RV repair guy. He's due here tomorrow. Today we drove up to Springfield MO to get RV parts for several other repairs. Found a GREAT RV service/parts store: Thomas and Sons RV Supply. THEY ARE FANTASTIC!!! One of the parts guys listened to me tell my fridge problem. He said he thought he knew the problem; the Limit Switch (aka High Temperature Magnetic Limit Switch). He described what the device looked like. Because I'd spent so much time looking at the back of the fridge through the exterior access panel, I knew exactly the box of which he described. And yes, the red light was on. He told me the magnet trick. Stopped by Home Depot on the way home and bought a magnet. Got home, and being unsure of what exactly to do, I found your video on KZread. It was PERFECT!!!! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I did what you said to do with the magnet. Heard the click. Heard the fridge turn on. Checked it. It worked in both propane and electric mode. Hot damn, our fridge is back in action!!! Next, I called the repairman, thanked him, and then explained we'd fixed the fridge. It felt so good to do this job myself. Thanks!!!! Bill

Hi, I bought my RV last year, I just noticed that my limit switch has no bleu and red wire (no in and out wire as you said). Only the ground and the sensor wire. I guess without any doubt this device cannot work properly if the is not electricity that goes in or out. What is the reason for that, do you any idea. If I plug a blue and red wire in it, is there a way to test it?

Thank you for your video. Our Norcold 4150 seems to have the solenoid valve locked so no gas gets to the ignition area. This model does not show the parts in the same way yours has them. Also, no red light is visible. Any idea how to unblock that valve to allow gas to go through? Thanks!!

Well, I went to Blue Beacon to get the rig washed last Saturday, replaced the ice maker in the freezer of my Norcold 1200LRIM, turned it on when I was done and guess what? It wouldn't turn on. Went around back and was 'blinded' by a red light. Istarted researching this on line and stumbled upon your video. Got my Big Larry in hand, reset the switch and all is well. We just got back from 5 1/2 months on the road and the fridge was working great. That being said I figured one of those guysat the wash must have sprayed up in the vent and got things wet. Great video. I subscribed. Where were you here? Almost looks like Blue Star or Lost Dutchman RV park in Apache Junction?

My referigerator wasn't working 🙄 again! I checked it out I unplugged the AC cord and unplugged it from the circuit board and looked at the plug to board socket and the socket was burned on one side from a loose connection in the cord it was burned you could see the burned rubber on the end of the cord. So I clipped off the connection and replaced the slide on spade connectors and plugged it in and Walla! It works!😀 So check this if your fridge doesn't work on AC.😁

Great info, thanks. I have had this issue with my fridge 3 times now, twice I have lost food. My issue is definitely water related- all times just after washing the RV or a very heavy rain storm. Does anyone know what component needs to be kept dry to avoid this error condition? I assume it is the burner assembly since that is where the single brown sensor wire is connected. Problem is I am not sure there is anyway to avoid water from getting in, besides covering all the vent holes- which obviously is no solution.

  • @RVEnthusiast

You are welcome. I would rinse from above the fridge and let the water run down, rather then rinsing the vent cover completely. See if that helps. His was completely wet inside so the exact component im unsure of...electronics hat water though. I as well thought it was that sensor with the brown wire being the issue originally when I looked at it all. Thanks for the reply. Bruce

Question for all that did this fix, My fridge quit working after some 70 mph wind and rain coming from the rear of my coach while parked and hooked up. That red light is on steady and not blinking. But also my display on the the front of the fridge is dead and the light does not come on when the door is opened. Could this be the same problem?

Metabo, I don’t know the answer to the question you are asking. I can tell you it would not hurt anything to try this and see if it solves your issue. Make sure to use a strong magnet like I suggested. Good luck and I hope it fixes your specific issue. Let us know in the comments.
