I'm so glad that I found this because I was about to pull my hair out on my first project with tiny letters and pieces that wouldn't lift onto the transfer tape neatly. Now I'm off to try it!

Lifesaver. Works brilliantly. I used my Jamberry mini heater for nail stickers . I use the permanent vinyl on my cards and use the transfer tape to get it in the right place. Battled with getting the smart vinyl onto the transfer tape. The iron on stuff wasn't an issue but the smart vinyl had me tearing out my hair. Used the heat trick and it went on first go effortlessly. So relieved!!!

Old Post but... There are low, medium and high tack versions of transfer tape. Rule of thumb, the stiffer/thicker the vinyl, the higher tack you need. You can "de-tack" higher tack tape by applying it a few times to a cotton fabric (rolling it on my jeans works well on small pieces, or bed linen for larger). In theory you could use a spray mount adhesive to increase tack, but in practice hand spraying I find to be too hit and miss to give good results.

Excellent video...thanks for helping us out! Question for you....once I use the blow dyer, and then use the scraper tool, does the decal have to be applied right away? I was wondering if I did this and mailed them to my customers, that it would still come off the transfer tape just as easy for them once they get it.

very helpful. i bought oracal transfer tape and it was terrible. now i have frisco tape and its okay.

Unfortunately this did not work either for my project. I have a very intricate design.. Will have to take the next hour and try to peel it back one tiny leaf at a time. Learned my lesson about using smart vinyl....the HARD way.

I will try this. I have a large roll of Cricut transfer tape that just doesn’t seem to stick. I thought it was faulty.

I have problems with it sticking to textured vinyl

So I’m having an issue that this isn’t working well for me either. And on top of that my vinyl letters are all bubbly on my cup. Any help for that? I’ve heated it, gently scraped the bubbles out and they come back! And yes, I did prep my cup with 91% isopropyl alcohol. I’m just not sure what I’m doing wrong 😢

I will never buy smart vinyl again, thank you for this tip, I am going to try it because I have yet to get the vinyl off the backing without “weeding” it off and it ruins the vinyl.

I agree! But Cricut keeps selling it although it appears to be an inferior product and people waste more money that goes in their pockets!!

I have a question does this vinyl peel off the cups.? And if you put in dishwasher will it come off? Just don’t want kids to peel off and try to eat it. I just got a cricut and still learning.

Thanks for the tip...but it's still not working for me. I too use the Cricut Smart Vinyl on my joy. When I go into the menu to cut it, there's an option for the pressure. Do I need to adjust this to a lighter or heavier pressure setting to get the vinyl to transfer? Not all customers of mine have a hair dryer if they are only ordering the decal. Thanks in advance! 👍🙂

This really makes me concerned having just bought a Joy. I’m new to Cricut products but so many people are having issues with their products but nothing is done about it or people just keep buying them dispute the issues. When we buy something isn’t it supposed to just work without people having to create hundreds of hacks to make the cutting process easier than it actually is out of the box???Seems weird that it doesn’t just WORK as it’s expected to since it’s not cheap!

Tried it...doesnt work...doesnt help that i expect it to work as easy as you make it look.

🙈question... love hack- but is this vinyl meant to be permanent?... just asking since u pushed in with ur fingers ...?

Yes it's permanent. As long as you let it sit for 48-72hrs before using or washing you shouldn't have any issues🙂

Tried all these, still won't come off of smart vinyl

Tried this top didn’t work, all it did was melt my transfer tape and my letters still didn’t come off. This is the last straw for Cricut for me I have the Joy and the Maker and I can tell you every project I have made I had to take the letters off one at a time by hand and place them myself. Over a hundred do,Lars in different transfer tape and even the Cricut brand and nothing works. I’m am so done with both machines will be selling them to who ever wants these.

@@The5blessings I agree with you total misery, I have packed away both my Cricuts and probably will never bring them out again. One can’t afford to waste anymore money. Watching others use theirs makes me even more upset because they seem to have absolutely no issues. I hope if you continue with it you figure it all out
