I installed my Harbor Freight 5000lb winch in a similar fashion as yours. In my case, I welded the hitch receiver to the front elevated rail on my car hauler. I then used a piece if 4x2 square tubing to attach the back side of the hitch receiver to the middle frame member of the trailer vertically. This made a box like structure with added welds so the winch is not pulling solely on the bumper rail. I bought a 30 foot jumper cable set with quick disconnects so I could use the trucks battery. This allowed me to not have to buy another battery and mount it somewhere. I mounted the solenoid directly to the flat hitch plate, and the short quick disconnect wires to the winch solenoid. Simple system, that is easily removed and stored in my garage when not in use. I could've ran the jumper wires along the trucks frame and have the plug near the rear bumper, but that would've been more work. Much easier to just unroll the wires, pop the hood, attach to the battery and away I go.

I used the same winch and mount on my car trailer except cut the front pipe so the wench was at the end of the trailer deck, not on the deck, also purchased 20' 2 guage jumper cables and attached quick connectors to the winch end and retained the alligators clips (not sure if that's what they are called). That way like you I did not need an additional battery.

It’s been two years. What do you think about the winch and setup? Is it still working? I’m planning to buy a winch this week and it was an option.

I made a very strong removable winch mount stronger than the haul master removable winch mount

I like harbor fright winches why because they have great prices on there winches and they are really good for what they do

Jump box ended up dieing on me. I started to car extra long jumper cables and just run straight to my car battery.

What is the kit to connect it to the trailer connections?

By all accounts that is a good winch. They have tried to make a mounting bracket in the one size fits all category so it is woefully weak especially where the fairlead mounts. Making your own and beefing up the rest of that plate would be well worthwhile if you are actually going to use the winch.

@@DoorslammersGarage Sounds like light usage in which it will be fine. Start getting up towards its limit doing angles off the fairlead hauling logs or such and you will see what I mean. Hard pulls at angles going off raiding getting really stuck heavy rigs, ditto. Glad it is doing what you want.
