    I feel like that's partly because lesbianism has been and still is highly sexualised for the benefit of men so they wouldn't make laws against it and partly because women's sexuality and opinions were seen as irrelevant anyway. Fun fun fun

    In school I had to study a poem called "Frau Freud" by Carol Ann Duffy, which imagines Freud's wife as a speaker at a women's institute. The poem is literally just 12 lines of listing slang for penises and 2 lines of deconstructing the theory of penis envy, implying that Freud made it up out of his own feelings of sexual inadequacy. This is one of the most respected poets in the world. It's brilliant.

    Slightly off topic, but I always found the Oedipus complex to be badly named. It was named after someone who, and forgive me if I’m wrong, it’s been a while since I’ve heard the story, gouged his eyes out upon discovering that he had slept with his mother.

  • @swededontknow

    @swededontknow

    5 жыл бұрын

    yeah, the entire deal was that he never knew it was his mother, because he was abandoned as a baby. when he grew up, he thought this was a random lady and that his dad was just a bastard, so he killed his father and married his mom. after having a daughter, an oracle came and told oedipus that it was his mom. his mom then killed herself and oedipus gouged out his eyes, and he spent the rest of his life trying to repent. fun story.

    Gosh I've always hated Freud. His thoughts on lesbianism are actually out there though because one of his daughters was a lesbian. He essentially thought they were amoral, lying, loose cannons because they didn't have a man to guide them through life. He also thought it stemmed from mental illness and that he needed to psychoanalyze lesbians, so he essentially just made his daughter talk to him about her fantasies and then used that as part of some of his conferences. Like, I already knew Freud was gross, but my teacher in my sophomore year found out about this stuff and told us we had to research it on our own because she was worried about presenting such nasty information to a bunch of like 15 year olds. He's just a terrible person honestly

    I did a paper on Freud a few weeks ago and YES these are basically exactly my thoughts. He also researched the medicinal pros of cocaine for a while and convinced other doctors to give cocaine to their patients... He later recanted it, but still.... And yeah, he believed sexual pleasure was the basis to EVERYTHING, and defended it so much that when his protege, Carl Jung, refused it, they split and created the two main courses of psychoanalysis. I mostly agree with the Ego/Id/Superego stuff, but man... Freud is messed up

    Nice. Team Jung all the way. Freud was a bit of a pervert. Ultimately Carl Jung left him because of his obsession with sex and always connecting it to emotions of why people act the way they do. Sex is not always the answer. Jung knew that too.

    The Electra Complex was the result of the reactions by straight men when Freud recognized sexual abuse. He had a female patient who had ptsd due to sexual abuse by her father and I can't remember it very clearly, but he published a theory which summarizes what happens when young girls are being sexually abused. However, he's still a piece of trash, because instead of standing up for his theory, he valorized the aggressive reactions of straight men much more than the pain of his patient.

    My older sister has a theory that children who explore themselves sexually from an extremely young age have been sexually abused during an even younger age. Though, idk if there are any studies on it, and she didn't mention any. It's just what she personally concluded from experiences she had as well as people she has spoken to including myself... I keep forgetting to look it up until it becomes relevant to something I'm viewing or talking about. Honestly though, I doubt I'll look it up any time soon. I've been binge watching your videos. It's 8 am. I have had absolutely zero sleep. I'll probably forget. Still, her theory is an interesting one.
