Mine too. Raw and crude as it was even then, I never got tired of watching 'ShMN' in my old VHS. Being nowadays 46 years old does not destroy those sensations!

I skated past this era (started mid 80s to late 90s) the street tricks look basic now, but the heavier, larger decks with less concave, bigger wheels & trucks y'all youth watching this prob have no idea the strength/nuance it took to do this. This was before, decks, wheels & trucks got lighter to compliment this style. I could only flip/trick 40% what I could after skate tech got lighter/more refined.

Just turned 46, just started skating again. I would watch this, then go skate everyday, all day!!! Matt H is still rad!!!

48yrs old and this was the video that inspired us even more to skate! Other than having my daughter this was the greatest time of my life by far! 😎

I remember when this vid came and my buddy ordered it from Thrasher and we watched it at his house. We were so blown away! Up to that point the Powell and Santa Cruz videos were our bibles, then H-Street just took what we thought was possible to the next level. We hit the streets with a vengeance that day and tried to learn all the new tricks we saw. Hand rails? We were like “Whaaat?!” Man at that time skating was progressing so fast, new tricks were coming out all of the time. Innovation was happening with new pros and new companies popping up like every couple of months. Nobody really had a half-pipe around here in Jersey so street was the thing and this was way before skating was cool so only the punks and outcasts were skaters or freestyle bikers. I begged my parents to let me build a mini-ramp in our backyard but I settled for a small ramp and a rail slider. Nowadays I kick around on my long board and a 10 year old Alien Workshop board. I don’t skate but here and there, can’t do much more than a few tricks but I still look at curbs and handrails like I used to. This video brings me back in a big way, got me stoked to get an old school board, with a shape and some real concave, long and wide with loose trucks! These band-aid boards that have become the ubiquitous standardized skate equipment just never did it for me. They lack the variety and uniqueness that defined skatings earlier times. That’s what happens when something like an art form becomes a sport, it has to fit into a package for easier commercialization. Something was lost in that transition with skateboarding. And I think some of the soul went with it. But hey that’s progress I guess.

I can relate. No ramps really in NY in the 80s so we were street skaters by default. It baffles me still the way people in California talk about it like this was a choice vert or street. For them I guess it was, but no one's folks in 80s NY were going to let them build a half pipe in the backyard nor would a city build one. Thankfully that's changed because some of the places we went to find good spots the skate and the antics we got up to and I was hardly to worst offender, would make me as a parent today grateful that I know the kids are at the skate park with some degree of supervision. I personally like the double tailed boards, but I hear you that the uniformity of a sport takes away from the culture of skating. Shackle-Me-Not was the breakthrough video where skating was shown for the raw sport it is.

Im 49 almost 50 and still love skateboarding.

To the next gen of skaters, THIS film was a gamechanger. This, to me, was the time, '88/'89 that was the end of one era and the beginning of another. You decide the rest.

It's funny how amazing this was at the time, but 2 years later was horribly outdated. The sport grew so fast. Try to explain Nyjah Huston to guys in 1988, doing flip back smiths down monster rails every try.

I seen the video and begged my mom to go to the skate shop and buy Matt Hensley's deck. I mowed the lawn every three days during the summer after. Then started mowing other lawns for money then bought a Danny Way deck by myself. I was addicted.

I always loved the guitar piece between Eddie Elguato and super sonic skate camp.

What’s incredible is this still “feels” new to a 48 yr old that remembers vigorously throwing this into my VCR as a 13 year old when it first came out. I guess it will always feel that way.

Like a lot of people I didn't have access to a vert ramp so street skating was what I had...and after watching Animal Chin a million times this came along and stunned my eyes. Lovely trip down memory lane.

I was 14 when this came out and I got my vhs copy. I was living in another Country. So reminiscent of my adolescence. Nostalgic...

2019 and this is the first time I’ve ever seen this video in any kind of clarity since I first had a 6th gen grainy VHS dub in 1988 😂

I watched this movie a trizillion times and went skateboarding afterwards.

The best SK8 video ever... with the best sound track! it all started here ❤

Quite possibly the best soundtrack to a skate movie..and one of the most influential ones from that era.

These guys were the innovators of what we call today street skating.

Now watching this again after 20 years you see how sketchy street was. SO COOL.

Thanks for uploading this. LOL I grew up in Vista and was a total skate gumbie. It's hilarious looking back at this. Back in the day I skated at all the spots in the video and have ridden with most of the guys in the video. It's pretty unreal looking back to realize that I grew up in the middle of that time in skateboarding. Just wish I had 1/2 the talent of those guys. Definitely an amazing time to be a skater.

WE ALWAYS WATCHED THIS SOOO MUCH SO, IT INSPIRED US TO BUILD our own 8ft HALFPIPE 24ft wide with a 2 ft extension and a roll in we built in my friends huge backyard it took like 2 months, we took all the wood from a construction site that was building new homes across from my High School at the time,..I was 14 I used to sneak my dads pick up truck at midnight and me and 2 friends would go and load up on 2x4’s and Plywood it was 1989/ 1990 different we just wanted to make our ramp by any means possible and we did I eventually learned a 540 on that ramp I landed it at the bottom of the transition but still counted 🤙🏼BEST CHILDHOOD EVER I’m also comment “333” ✨
