I got a hr from cmp years ago everything was correct except the the trigger guard which was a milled WW 2 part, but that’s ok, sturdier and better than the stamped one. I rubbed a shot pot of tung oil into the stock to retain the original gi finish, dings and cartouche marks instead of refinishing it. It’s a beautiful firearm no doubt it.

I'd love to get an H&R Garand. I have a WWII/Korean vintage SA and a SA National Match.

I’ll never understand so many people’s love for putting true oil and other glossy polyurethanes on what should be fairly matte wood stocks. Love those rifles though. An H&R was my first rifle.

Just what my old man did when I was a kid when he got it. I’ve just left it as he done it. It doesn’t bother me any. If I had one that wasn’t a mix master, I’d probably have it with a plain oil finish stock like they came.

That’s a beautiful rifle, love the stock and glad you got a rifle from your father, passing down tradition is the best.

The M1 Garand was the first rifle I ever shot when I was 11 yrs old. To this day it is the greatest and best battle rifle I have ever operated.

Miss some of the M1 Garands I've owned over the years. Still have 2...both SA. One is Dec. 44 the other is post WWII all correct. They are absolutely great shooting rifles and way more accurate than I am. The lend lease ones that went overseas are really cool. I never owned a Beretta receiver M1...only owned SA, HRA and Winchester Garands. You're spot on with the ammo...most folk don't know that. I have a ton of surplus ammo(Greek HXP like you had), but really need to get an adjustable gas plug to keep on hand for the day I need to shoot modern .30-06 through one of mine. I have an old bandoleer like that, but no pack or suspenders. Do have some bayonets as well. Sure wished I had held onto/looked for more of that surplus stuff back when I was younger and that stuff was more plentiful. When I was super young, I actually found an old WWII German uniform jacket. Not realizing what I had at the time(was probably 7 years old?) I got rid of it because all I saw was the Nazi symbols and knew that was bad. Anyways, great piece of history there with your M1 and your surplus stuff. Need to blow the dust off mine and shoot them. Been years since shooting an M1 match. Hope you have a great rest of your week and great weekend!

Thanks man. My Bucketlist Receiver is an International Harvester. The Berettas are cool pieces also, but a “tractor” Garand is the one I want. Idk what draws me to collecting surplus, but I’ve loved the stuff since I was a teen. Appreciate the support man!

@@j_c_hunt .. Military surplus are nice pieces of machined steel. Only M1 one I ever shot was the International Harvester. It had like an OD green finish with nice wood like it was never issued.

Federal, S&B and PPU all make new commercial ammo to M2 ball specification. I think Winchester has also started to make correct ammo for the Garand.

Love this firearm! I dont own one just yet, but plan to have one in hand within the next year or so.I started a 6 gun collection of WWII rifles as my grandfather was over there. I grew up watching "the world at war" with my pop pop.... That was many, many years ago now. Im now a grandfather so lol. In any case i just purchased a No4 Enfield yesterday and am waiting on the Nic's at the moment. I plan to have an example of a WWII rifle from the three main allie/axis powers. I have a Mauser my Pop's brought back with him from the war, i found a very nice Carcano M41 Carbine, the type without that huge ugly bayonet! lol Along with the Enfield i will only need an Arisaka, Nagant and Garand. I feel i can expand on the collection later. In any case it looks as though Nagants are jumping in price and will be one of the more expensive guns ot buy? Im hoping the prices drop one day soon again, but i dont think its gonna happen? So looking for the Arisaka next then the nagant and when it comes to the Garand i may go threw the CMP program......or not? You can find some nice examples at local gun shops and online now and then and may just take a shot? Really i just want shooters. I dont want wall hangers that i will devalue,by shooting them. So its kind of hard to find these types of guns. Good shooters that in most cases are historical firearms, due to their age as Mil-Surp firearms. :>/ So when i found the No4 i just bought, for 500bucks made me happy! Its not so much money that im worried about shooting it yet its historical and a great conversation piece! Once i build a cabinet to hold them on the wall for display it will be awesome! Already considering bullet proof glass and a heavy locking mech. to secure them and when i mount it to the wall it will go threw the studs so it cant be just ripped off the wall and carried out! LOL I live in a great blue state! :>/ Gotta be on your toes as our Governor keeps letting our violent criminals and child murderers because they could get sick from C19 ,while trying to dissarm the citize ns of his state! Sickening to me and cant wait to flee the state! Great video and enjpoy the freedoms you have now, because the left is trying to strip us of them!!! Sorry for getting a bit political but ,growing up and living in my Blue hell all my life has changed me. I gotta get out and i pray i can find a nice piece of land some place, in west Virginia?ASAP! Great video and example of an M1!
