Evil people don't reflect on their wrong doings. Rui wanted to destroy Lu when he recommended Lu to General Zhang on the banquet and used devious/corrupt method to spy on Lu's modus operati and when Lu turned the table on him, he said Lu was ruthless. Similarly his manager himself was small-minded with wicked ideas, yet accused Lu of being a petty person.

The problem lies with Chinese culture of giving face. If Lu had informed Chang that Small Five was spying for Rui instead of keeping quiet about the matter, Chang could have dealt with his son earlier on. Fortunately, Small Five didnt carry out the wicked task.
