I have a 17 Road King standard, absolutely love it. I have been told by so many people who used to own one… “never sell that bike”. I never will. My wife and I have ridden it very long distances. I had test rode 7 various Heritage bikes. I was sold on the Heritage. Then I rode the King… there was no question.

I've owned 5 HD's. 2 Deluxe, 1 Ultra Classic, and for the last 12 years a Street Glide. Finally traded in the SG and got a 2018 Road King Police,. Same engine as the bike you just reviewed. By far the smoothest, most enjoyable bike I've owned. Windshield off in warm weather and there's nothing better. Thanks for the review..

So, that's exactly what I thought about the engine on this bike. It's a 107 but it seemed to be far smoother in this frame than the other bikes. And the other bikes were really smooth too. Something about how to set up is maybe? Great motorcycle.

IMO, this is what a Harley Davidson should be. My '08 R/K Classic does everything I ask of it. Timeless looks, enough power (with the 96 ci) & touring comfort.

I've had my Road King for two years. By far the best bike I've ever owned. It does everything; touring cruising, commuting but probably not for off roading! I've even taken it through the notorious Hard Knot Pass in the UK without a problem. So far utterly reliable and still very shiny.

I bought a 2019 Heritage Classic in June after a 30 year layoff from riding. Rode it till November when I walked into the dealership and saw this beauty in gauntlet gray and black with blue and black pin striping. I love everything about this motorcycle. I added the Custom Dynamics LED headlamp, passing lights, turn signals/brake light with the Triple Play module for brake light modulation. This is an incredible motorcycle.

Harley Davidson has done some really nice upgrades with the newer Road Kings. In contrast, I have an old Road King that I will not part with anytime soon in the foreseeable future. The Harley Davidson Road King is one of the most elegant, stylish and archetypical Harley Davidson motorcycles ever produced and forever etched in HD's rich history of motorcycle designs. The Road King is the personification of a Harley Davidson icon. Road King stands supreme and has no equal. Those select riders who own one are indeed privileged. I own a 2003 Road King Classic, 100-Year Anniversary Edition, with the Screaming Eagle engine upgrade from an 88 V-Twin to a 95. The fast producing torque and sound is exhilarating. My Road King with its original anniversary Two-Tone Sterling Silver and Vivid Black paint colors stands out. The commemorative medallions seen throughout this ride's sculpted design adds to its nostalgia, mystique, and exclusivity.

My Dyna will still always be my Bar hopping Street fighter. But my King is gonna take me on the long hauls across Europe. ( long story , cold war leftover lol) First run is set for the end of May, down to Greece . And I am really looking forward to the ride...

I absolutely LOVE my 2017 Road King! I bought it used with 16K miles and got a killer deal on it. Came with Rinehart duals and a SE Stage 1 intake already installed. I was off motorcycles for about 4 years, but 8 since my last Harley. In 2022 I went from no Harley, to a Sportster 1200, to a Dyna Fatbob with the 103 to my 2017 Road King with the 107 M8. The Road King is the best and smoothest ride of any bike Ive ever owned. Only my former Yamaha FZ1 rivals this Road King in terms of fun factor. A few things: 1. I always lusted after the blacked out bike look. Now having a standard Road King, chrome is growing on me. In moderation of course 2. I love the fact that Im a quick detach fairing away from having an Electra Glide. With some elbow grease and parts, I can turn my bike into a Road Glide. Some damn good versatility. 3. Even though Harley has "discontinued" the standard Road King trim for 2023, I think it will make a comeback in the near future.

funny you should say that the 23 models just came out and they did away with the Road king classic only have the RKS now. not sure that's a good move from Harley that yellow I don't care for it. maybe a yellow and black to break it up like they did on the RGS that looks good. my opinion.

Love the standard Road King. I hear they are likely to drop it in 2023 and only do the specials. If I were buying a RK, it would definitely be the standard. I much prefer it over the special. It’s got everything you could want from your motorcycle straight from the factory. Maybe that’s why they’re dropping it? Too many lost sales on modifications? Plus the specials are thousands more.

I love the look and styling of the road king standard. But as someone who only stands 5' 6" tall it is a bit of a reach for me to get my feet on the ground. I had a road king special and ended up trading it for a heritage classic, which I absolutely love. My local dealer just got a road king police special and have it priced reasonably and I am seriously thinking about trading my low rider S for it, so I can take some longer trips this year.

I'm 5'6 150 I just traded my lowrider s for a 2022 RKS without even thinking about the 70 extra pounds. at first it was a little much. then I switched out the bars to factory 47s and it felt like 50 pounds was taking off. I love my RKS I can ride so many more hours now I was hurting at the 2 hour mark on the lowrider. On the touring chassis I put easy 6 hours now so much of a defference in comfort I could not even believe it if I would have known it was that much of a defference I would have went with the touring chassis a long time ago and saved my back lol. the RKS being the lightest of the touring bikes. with upgraded rear suspension I rip this bike like I did my lowrider best both in my opinion...

I’m also only 5’6”. Love my 2022 RK-- got a Mustang seat- not only can I comfortably reach the ground with both feet-the ride is so much nicer. Used to have a Heritage- but the RK is definitely the way to go. I ride about 12,000 miles per year- short and long rides. Can’t go wrong. Make sure you do get a windshield though.

Yes that windshield has less protection than the glides, but you can add hand guards, fork fangs and crash guard covers to help if things get colder. The payoff is you can take that stuff off when things are hot! No doubt the radio on the bike is convenient but I use a bluetooth headset for FM radio, phone and podcasts so it's not a deal breaker for me. But if I had money I'd love a CVO Streetglide to add to the stable for sure!

It's interesting that you mentioned the smoothness of the 107 because that's something I noticed right away on this bike. I'm not saying the 114 or the 117 aren't smooth just saying I noticed how smooth the 107 was in the road king standard. I'll go as far as to say the smoothest I've ridden. As far as canceling the road king standard goes, I've heard that too. They're not going to make the 107 anymore. I'm hoping they come up with something equally nice because this is one of my favorite motorcycles. Wahoo!

@@fuzzyamericanbiker6461 The Special is not an alternative for me. Blacking out a beautifully crafted HD engine is heresy enough, but it also lacks a decent passenger seat, passenger floorboards, bag crashbars, comfortable handlebars, a windshield, & full travel rear shock. What it does come with, I don't like, like a low profile front tire that could too easily damage the rim & droopy saddlebags. The fact it sells for several thousand more is also a turn off.
