Not Ace Combat this time, just pure DCS and a RL story, been a while since I did anything like this but I kept listening to that song in the mission editor while in the F-14 module and had to make something out of it. I know this doesn't have the sparkle that the ace combat videos do but I wanted to keep this one clean and close to DCS with some minor masking and VFX to make it look a tad more 'real'.

@Nassault

That line gives me chills. It was the pilot of Gypsy 207, who apparently was arguing with his RIO the entire time. His RIO, Commander Enwright wanted to launch a long range missile while they still had a distance advantage. Pilot Commander Connelly protested this, but Enwright went ahead and launched the AIM-7. This caught Connelly by surprise, when he saw the trail leaving his jet. In that "Aw, jesus" you can just imagine Commander Connelly assessing everything that is going on, what is going to happen, and even though he's not happy about it, you can tell he knows what's next. Ultimately 207 would miss both their AIM-7's due to a launch error, and 202 would bag the first MiG with their AIM-7 launch, while 207 would go in and sweep up the last one with an AIM-9 (that he also didn't launch immediately because Connelly didn't have solid tone, but in the middle of the dogfight managed, to correct his error, activate the AIM-9 and hear a solid tone even with the RIO blasting him like a backseat driver). My favorite part of that, is when he says "I can't! I don't have a fucking to--ooh". He apparently catches his error right when he's saying 'tone', flicks a switch and is greeted with solid growl

@@Nassault yeah that "Aw Jesus" is almost haunting. Like heeeeeere we go hope we don't die or worse start a war. Awesome write up on the incident. Crazy to think about how much of an advantage having two men in one ship can be while also sometimes a disadvantage. One guy hoping things can deescalate and they can scare off the Migs. @@d.b.6240 It wasn't about turning the weapons systems on that warrants the shoot down its the breaking of international protocol that when fighters disengage the opposite should do the same. Listen to the recording they said that the Migs turned into them 5 times. You do not know that they are not hostile as Fighters have the ability to use FLIR and IR missiles without putting out tone warning the Tomcats that they are being locked. The fact that the Migs turned into them after they turned away is an aggressive action and is equivalent to pointing a gun at someone warranting self defense

@@d.b.6240 2 different scenarios the Russian planes wave off or do not turn in to intercept when being waved off. The Libyans turned into an intercept pattern 5 times again listen to the radio. When we intercept Russian planes its when they are on patrol and not in a head to head BVR (Beyond Visual Range) combat pattern. When American aircraft intercept the Russians they wave off and do not turn hostile or attempt to BFM what you would call dog fighting. The Libyans saw the Tomcats disengage and they turned into attack. The Tomcats again turned away the Libyans again turned into attack patterns this is aggressive and is considered BVR combat tactics. It is equivalent to a guy down the street with a gun seeing you walking towards you. You turn away but he turns to intercept you. You turn away again he turns to intercept again doing this over 5 times makes it clear he is hostile. While Russians do violate airspace or play hostile after wave off they settle down and do not proceed further. The Libyans proceeded further over 5 times. The Libyans might have a responsibility to observe and identify the targets but they like any other Airforce with 3rd and 4th gen aircraft have FLIR and the ability to do so from distance without constantly closing in and aggressively pulling into an attack pattern over 5 times. If your going to attempt to try to argue from a computer chair what is considered hostile or not and the appropriate action would be without understanding what aerial maneuvers or even aircraft capabilities are your going to get a lot wrong. To summarize my point in layman terms what the Libyans where doing was way more hostile and aggressive than the what the Russians are doing.
@d.b.6240

@@iggsta3o5 Your logic is totally flawed, you dont have any concept of air defense operations. Nassault, you have these glory shots in a lot of your videos that I always have to rewatch a few times. 3:25-3:32 is amazing. They’re pretty simple shots but capture the tone of video well and really go well with the track. I was waiting awhile for someone to use this part of the soundtrack. Fear the Bones gets a lot of the attention, but I always felt this was that ‘calm before the storm’ sort of song. Great video as always, can’t wait to see more.
Super sick. Cool to know where the "GOOD KILL GOOD KILL" comes from
@Tank50us

"good kill" just means that what was killed, was an enemy plane, and not a friendly. One of the issues with missiles is that they don't care who they go after. Earlier today I was trying to help an ally get an F-5 off his ass, and locked an AIM9X on that. The missile went stupid, and went after the very F-18 I was trying to save (fortunately he had warning as I saw it go for the wrong target and he defeated that missile). I wasn't able to save him, and I had to avenge him.

My big problem with TV and Hollywood depictions of aviation are that airplanes apparently can pull 30G turns in dogfights. The visualization of their flight paths are often exaggerated and made kind of cartoony, with high G turns, hyper acceleration etc. I think it's an attempt to dramatize something that's already dramatic and cancels out.
