Scotto’s neck deep into converting his AE86 Corolla into a proper race car for Gymkhana GRiD this year, and it’s time to do some mad scientist stuff to that junkyard Ford diff! Making it fit means a shorter axle rod, a fancy carbon fiber clutch plate kit from Ford Racing, dual caliper Wilwood brakes, and of course taking a torch to the pumpkin. It actually makes sense if we explain the science stuff (probably).

Man this was such a banger episode. Perfect combo of random Scotto building things I never knew about, actual car progress, beauty shots, it really had it all. Well done boys.

How bout if Scotto doesn’t finish the VR86 he has to run the 911 in Gymkhana grid 😅💀

Jolly's Comments are always on point! and it is funny Scotto "teaches" how to do this, followed up by thanking Ron for the idea lol. We need a Scotto teaching vlog... Call it Scotto's Nut tricks
Dude Jameson is the man. Seems like a super knowledgable, chill guy. Would love to hear his background!
Scotto does have the best build videos. It’s not just funny but informative and entertaining. Even though he never finishes them the approach and technicality are on point 😂😂. Keep rockin dude we love it. 🤘
I imagine if the VR6 gets in there, that car will be one of the most fun things ever and SOUND AMAZING.

@@MrBlockohwhen you shorten the long side of the axle housing, does the new overall length equal the 86 axle? Or are we shortening the 8.8 just to fit under the 86 and not to match the axle sizes. Thanks!

Holy shit, most exciting project for me! :D Can't wait for the VR beast! Now you can go turbo with that rear axle. :)
This are the best videos in a long time this takes me back to the good old Hoonigan days when the boys would build they're own shit
As a truck guy I'm terribly jealous of the weight on that rear axle.

Definitely the most simplest build out of all the gymkhana grid cars. That being said, really hope Scotto can finish this build in time ie: not last minute
This is my favorite build of the bunch! So tasty with the choices and footage of it all. Thank you guys! 😁🤙

Jameson really recalls his wisdom achieved. I do not know if that is really called science, but I was told the same when I became a tool maker. Thumbs up!
Brian went from D&D to celebrity chief real quick lol
These episodes are fantastic, thanks!
I once broke The axle tube from the center section. Mig welded it back with basic wire and without pre heating. Held perfect for many track days still. Yours will definetly hold its own against the VR6 👌
Love how Scotto only looked at the coast side of the pattern 🤣🤣🤣 full send
Kinda amazing how clean the body of that car is

Nickel 55 is the welding wire of choice for C-Mac the Crip.
Jameson is a natural on camera. More of him in future episodes.
Nickle 55 is Crip Mac's favorite alternative band!🤣
I had a dream where I was parting out a old suburban to Scotto. Definitely peak dreamscape, but he had a flat cap on, I dont know how he feels on those but he looked like Jason Sudeikis and it felt too off to be reality so I woke up. 😂
Why do they make it look so fun I know that was probably a pain in ass
U better finish this! I can't wait
No going to lie… when the clip popped out of the vice and hit Scotto… I even jumped 😮
This has the potential to be my favorite car. Period.
Cool video - one of the best. Those multi-index backing plates are a very neat idea - don't recall seeing those before. It may run into binding issues, that could tend to turn it into an oversized ARB (swaybar), but if nothing breaks that could be a good thing - I'd suggest keeping an eye on the chassis and axle mountings, and making regular checks in the dog-leg links.
Wearing my back Hoonigan shirt with Hoonigan crooked all down my right side. I had my Gymkhana Hill Climb sweatshirt in med stole from me and a lot of my Hoonigan gear. Thank you and I really can't wait to see a VR6 AE86!

Your content makes me happier and motivates me. Because of kids and health problems at 35. I want to be working alongside you. I am pushing myself. If I can't in 10 years, my kids will have plenty of help. I hope. Right now I'm in a studio and my car just got totaled by a guy with a 4 day old car. I had a dark gray honda fit. For mpg but it was invisible to most people. I walked up his rear wheel and flipped on my side. The cops didn't believe me when I said reflex kicked in and I cranked the wheel to the left to flip it back over. It wasn't a thought. It was muscle memory. I couldn't explain it. Plus I had a concussion. You guys are great!!!
Thank you for this vid. Gonna test out this nickel 55 wire
Garaaaaage garaaaaaage!!!!
Nice progress
I think you will taco those tiny control arms before you break the plug welds on an 8.8
As a mid 40's life long Ford owner/fan I can confirm that friction modifier takes stinky gear oil to a level nobody wants to deal with.
Good job scotto
Never seen it damage to a hub from smacking in a stud 😂, hammer time mate 👍🏻
I've always like the old Corolla as I had a 81 baby blue interior and exterior 1.6 with an automatic that was grandma driven and got it for $480 CND and I blew the motor by spinning an oil bearing and gave it to the scrap yard at 16yrs old and when I watch this I am seeing things I dreamed of doing to mine. Now the motor auction that I wanted to go with was a 22RE or you can even go with the carbureted version intro some Weber's on it. But the 22RE is a 2.4L 4 cylinder beast that can easy push 300 and with that rear end you could build a stellar shift car.
Nice to see the BOSS lead the Minions by example, I can't wait to see the sneaky pete NOS he hides in the interior!!🦒
Hell yeah dude, looks beefy
Nice work 💪💪🔥🔥
Jameson totally missed the opportunity to yell "THAT'S A WRAP!" after wrapping the axle in thermo blankets... 😁

Being on the wall is just nice for the OG fans and It deserves retirement. Lol glad you're back to your roots. I barely watched This vs That. Thank you for going back to the roots of Hoonigan.
I've had 8.8s in a couple Toyotas from supras to Cressida wagons
Got to at least supercharge the vr6
I welded my 8.8 tubes, lots of abuse in an xj on 35s and never had an issue. It's cast steel and not iron. Pre heat and post heat is the most important.

The truth of this statement is frightening.
Henry Ford demanded that the rear gear be the most robust part of his cars. That demand turned into a philosophy at ford that has persisted long after his passing.
I use a transfer wire for the mig. From lincoln it's cor-a-rosta 309 p
"if you have the money pay someone to do this..." Jameson is being paid to do this, and doesn't want to do it. Hahahaha!!!
1 in 1 in the world don't think anyone in the world has build this
nice
Weight distribution also has to do with spring vs un-sprung weight… the motor is sprung weight, the axle is un-sprung, so the rear of the car will be more ‘planted’ than before due to the weight, whereas the front weight is progressive depending on suspension movement
@HooniganProjectGarage
Жыл бұрын
True, but typically in road racing, you want less unsprung… So we will see.

Looking awesome Scotto! Bet your fingers will smell like death for a couple days cause of that gear oil lol. (When I was working on transmissions and gear sets, I used to put all the friction discs into fluid first thing in the morning or the previous night. Just how I was taught.)
