    I think class 800 sounds like series 400 or 200. Actually, series 200 could run 275km/h in Joetsu shinkansen. kzread.info/dash/bejne/dKeqlraEZ6y5nZs.html

    I highly doubt you're weird. The only station I can think of that is architecturally similar to Slough is Norwich, and you must be on your way to Specsavers to mix up Slough and Norwich, given their completely different platform layouts.

    As mentioned in the description, it is in Slough Station! In most station between Paddington and Reading station (exclusive), normally you can't get into the fast track platforms, so it's almost only in this station where you can see trains passing at that speed in front of you!

    This is no longer the case, as fast trains no longer regularly stop at Slough. Burnham, a whole four minutes away, having no fast line platforms, is probably the next best option, as there is no fencing to get in the way.

    British trains are narrower because they run on a narrower gauge rail than either mainland European or Japanese trains. It's why only the Eurostar trains can operate through the Channel Tunnel - because TGV's, ICE, and Renfe trains aren't compatible with UK railways. They're too wide. It's also why we don't have seats that can swivel round - as there isn't the space to do so. Just as with the UK, space is a premium in UK trains. So don't expect to see seats that can swivel on our trains anytime soon. Or ever.

  • @nerd2814

    @nerd2814

    Жыл бұрын

    @@robtyman4281 think you're getting the track gauge and loading gauge mixed up. Track gauge is not an issue in the UK for the TGV, ICE, Shinkansen, what have you. All UK trains run on standard gauge track (1,435mm, 4ft 8 1/2in). If you took an E5 Shinkansen from Japan and ran it on the East Coast Main Line, which is fully electrified, you'd find it runs just fine. The issue is the loading gauge, which is how big physically the train can be. Shinkansen trains usually are at least 3.4m wide, while the widest train to run in the UK is around 2.8m wide, because UK train stations can't handle a wider train.

    @@nerd2814 Not only stations, but also things like tunnels. I’m pretty sure there’s still a lot of third rail in the south due to tight tunnels and being too expensive to fix.
