this is my first and only gshock. i mostly either wear a smart watch or an automatic. this gshock has been on my wrist a month already. i like it. very comfy and easy to read.

Yea, this is definitely the classic G-shock. Very iconic design.

I just picked up a 5000u a couple of months ago. Got it from Seiya. It's a favorite of mine. There's something special about it: made in Japan with premium materials and solid steel case and styling of the very first G from 1983. It's a keeper.

Just received this watch today, i absolutely love it, it’s just so good, love the fact it has the time in the corner while on stopwatch and timer plus it’s multi band 6 and solar, solar G shocks are just the best as you can use the functions and light and auto light etc as much as you want and don’t need to worry about wasting the battery, this watch really is super cool.

I think some owners have mentioned this. For me I didn’t even notice as my G-Shocks are always on mute and I never use the alarm. Thanks for your observation though. It seems like the debate between GW5000 and GWM5610 is a long and thoughtful one. I’d say just get both. They’re equally good.

Very interesting. Well, I own the 5610 u and I'm happy with it. It has the same module as the 5000, but only costs half as much. think the 5610 is better in terms of price-performance ratio and the 5000 in terms of quality

LCW-M100TSE-1A2ER is also a classic :) but more elegant.

Congrats on your purchase. I got one last year brand new from Seiya Japan. 1JF model. Expensive but super high build quality, Display is brightest clearest so far.

Is there difference between 5000U and 5610U in display quality/visibility/contrast? Cause the module is the same ...

@@bertrandblanquefort Good question. I haven't got the 5610U. Andy SG does, I believe.

One of the reason I like my 5600 over 5610 is that it tells the time during stop watch, timer mode vs my 5610. Though it isn't solar it's a ton of watch for the money. This 5000u is awesome and I'm trying to justify spending $250+ for the quality and added features.... Decision decision decision Edit. I ended up buying it 👍

@@yusufbest4475 It is hard to justify. Quality is better too... Though all those features it has I do not use on the daily. It's nice to know they're on there. I'm happy with it.

I just wish I could install a sapphire crystal on one of these, or easily source a replacement mineral crystal. At this price one can't _expect_ a sapphire crystal, but I'd gladly pay $50 more if it came with one. Oh well, definitely a cool watch! Logically I should just buy one, because I love the 5610/5610U so much.

Casio only reserves the sapphire crystal for the highest tier titanium models. I guess that allows them to justify the crazy pricing. But seriously, I recommend you getting either the 5000/5610 U models. Very cool watches.

@@AndyinSG As it happens, yesterday I found a deal on a 5000U that I couldn't turn down, and that's on the way now. I already owned the M5610U and M5610 (w/ SS316L case+bracelet mod). I expect to keep all 3 of these. Actually I'm about to go shopping for a box or case just for my Casios... 😆

I have a 5000u. Great watch but the chimes are so weak, can only hear them when you put it next to your ear. Makes that feature useless.

I love my 5610, big enough to be a gshock, but light weight enough that its barely noticeable on the wrist.

In my opinion the fact it has metal lugs for the strap pins - much better and hard wearing than the plastic on the 5610 although its still a great watch

Is there a negative LCD on that model/series? Japan made It also has a feature of Tilt to Autolight same to GW-B5600MG?

Not that I know of. The GW-5000U series does not have a negative display. I think there was a GW-5035 Anniversary model with all-black look but that’s like an older model/module.

I have a couple of GMW-B5000 metal G-Shock squares. Because of the colored finish there's no way I would use them for anything else other than a watch for formal use. The GW-5000U is far more robust.

They don’t officially sell them in Australia for some reason. Maybe because we don’t provide an Atomic time keeping service here.

No. Only postive display for the GW5000 so far.

i have several gshocks, but since I got GW5000, I don't wear anything else but gw5000

That’s very common. Many people see the GW5000 is the only Gshock you’ll ever need. Great watch. Congrats and wear it in good health!

Only thing stopping me from getting one is the lack of colour. It does look good but I wouldn't mind a little more colour somewhere on it.

It’s the lack of colour and almost ‘stealth wealth’ character of the watch which is why I love it. However, I had to buy a 5610 as well for those splash of colour days, otherwise the 5000 is the daddy.

I had tis U version. Had to return it because I could not hear the alarm, countdown timer go off, you can barely hear it if you take the watch off and hold it to your ear. Even the 5610U is the same. Casio updates them, but they are useless might as well as stop putting alarms/timers on these new watches. Got a Timex Expedition, loud and vibrates, and it flashes for 1/4 price!

I actually mute all my G-Shocks. And I avoid the basic DW5600s because they can’t be muted. I guess we all have our own preferences in this hobby. Perhaps the previous models have louder tones and may suit you. Cheers.

@@AndyinSG I sold all mine, but recently got the GD350 negative display, has vibrating alarm I can feel. The negative display is the best one I ever had, I can see display in my house with all the curtains closed without having to use the backlight.

I want to see the date when in world time, not home time in the date box. The module should give you the option. If I cared about home time, I would already be in home time mode.

Casio has been milking its G Shock Square for several decades now, and seems to have run out of ideas. The new iterations all look like twins. Even the $4k MRG has the same module as the ones costing a few hundred dollars.

The MRG probably isn’t about the module. It’s more of a showoff of all the materials and meticulous craftsmanship put into the build. But I do get your point. The squares mostly look the same. Perhaps the GW5000 is one to rule them all.

Sure BUT you could literally say that about pretty much any "iconic" watch. The design is what makes it iconic, and you can't deviate from that without losing what makes it an icon in the first place. I'm not necessarily fans of all of these but the Submariner, every other Rolex in the catologue, the Speedmaster, most Omegas actually, the tank, the Santos, every Genta design ever, the Reverso, the Big Pilot, etc. etc are all iterations of the orignal versions. No one wants a sub that doesn't look like a sub. I would fully include the square as an iconic watch, I don't know why Casio wouldn't keep making them.

@@brandonmcneil3555 Agree on the design part... But the other watches are constantly upgrading their movement. Casio has stagnated and only innovates on the case / bracelet.
