Guy first wrote this song as more of a ballad but realised it was too emotional to deliver , as the song is about a good friend and music collaborator who passed following a long battle with mental health. The man has a crazy range but also some of the best breath control in the industry and a beautiful falsetto. He can play multiple instruments including violin, guitar and drums and he writes all his own music and lyrics. This song won song of the year at these awards.

A little background info. Guy was the MC for the Australian Recording Industry Awards (ARIA) that night and the last announcement was for Record of The Year...which was 'Choir' and as it was going to be the last song for the Awards Guy had to hit the stage while still in shock and appreciation. The 'Choir' with Guy on the night were the Maori Church Choir' They sang in their language "Brother you are Home" Which was a lovely touch as this song was written by Guy for his friend and band member Luke who sadly took his own life. Thanks Ryan I feel you were more receptive to the performance than Nathan who I feel needed to 'listen' to the lyrics. I see many have suggested 'Battle Scars' from the Homefront...just Guy and his guitar singing his biggest hit to date. American Lupe Fiasco wrote the rap but here Guy sings both.

His medley on the voice is stunning! Guy is one of the best male singers! Has never had a singing lesson and taught himself everything he knows including drums, piano, guitar etc.

Guy's music collaborator/ friend took his own life and this was a tribute that Guy wrote for his friend. This was the final segment of the music awards the song taking out song of the year.

I love Guy Sebastian! He has an amazing vocal range & can sound just as good live as in the studio. He writes his own songs as well. However, this isn’t one of my favorite songs of his. I appreciate it & like it because I know the meaning of it to him. He’s got some better ones.

Guy is a brilliant musician. I don't think you have had the chance to experience his brilliant vocal range. His song Battle scars might change your opinion of him.

Yep this isn’t his best performance he was nervous and emotional. I don’t think these guys have any idea what he’s capable of. He’s literally in the top 20 male vocalists in the world right now when it comes to his range and ability. Just a look at his Wikipedia page would blow you away.

His performance at Eurovision put Australia on the world map and secured our invitation to that event in years to come. Winner of the first Australian idol, he also performed on American idol and blew Simon Cowell away. His vocal range leaves most artists for dead, as he can cover the whole Baritone and most of the Tenor range. Plays 7 instruments and writes all his own music and lyrics.

Ya'll acted like you didn't know he was singing about a lost friend, which was obvious from the lyrics which were so clear. But you guys were bopping along and making silly sounds effects and all. Wish you couldn't have enjoyed it for what it was.

I didn't like this performance. It reminded me of a cheesy Broadway play. But I love his vocals. The versatility of his vocals always impresses me. So Gifted.😎
