This entire documentary feels like a warm hug after coming in from the rain, unrelated but this makes me think what would America be without the Irish - Clark is a Celtic surname , the foundation of American country music comes from irish folk mingling with vernacular traditions of blacks from the Southland as well . We have alot of beautiful tradition in this country that sadly gets lost underneath meaningless politics

It's some kind of major open tuning. Not sure what key though. Amazing performance and movie!

Excellent. Thank you. I could tell it was an open tuning with e strings in Eb but the cappo makes it difficult to tell exactly. Whether you are extreemly proficient at finding things like this on the net, are kin to Guy and just "happen to know these things" or you have an 'eagle eye/ eagle ear' for guitar tunings (or maybe all three?) you have my gratitude. Always been an old favorite of mine and just playing it in standard Eb always lacked that certain sound. Thanks.

+GramVanClarke Not particularly unusual, exactly the same intervals as your standard open G tuning just a semitone up

Alcohol and other mind-numbing substances are necessary for the creation of this kind of music, because sober musicians would get bored to death and eventually become interested more in the endless quest for proficiency on their instruments, and in increasing complexity of composition, rather than woozy, nostalgic and lachrymose exercises in stylized world-weariness bordering on bathos.

dfoxy14 old time music be it blues influenced/mountain music whatever is not supposed to be an intellectual powerhouse testing the waters of music theory - it's just back porch picking music. pseudo intellectual dorks got a power high from being able to name 3 american primitivism artists and me always have these sort of discussions
