Had the honor of seeing him play the Brahms violin concerto this year in Malta. What an impression he made. I am forever a Braunstein fan

Braunstein is, in my opinion, one of the greatest violinists in the world today. He's a force of nature. Always unique, provocative, and compelling. Milstein would be proud and, dare I say, highly approve of this rendition. Like Milstein, he doesn't force the sound. He allows the violin to resonate freely and naturally. And his technique is there only for the music, not to show off. Bravissimo!!

Gracias Francisco! Milstein was a master of invention. I really believe he would have been amused and impressed with Braunstein’s refreshing rendition of his Paganiniana. I look forward to hearing more of Braunstein in the years ahead. He is phenomenal!

Just stumbled over this violinist recently. Wow, what a find! True to old school, but with his own style. He makes all the others sound corny or cookie-cutter. Finally a modern violnist I WANT to listen to! AMAZING

I came here because I wanted to have a look at a certain aspect of his technique. I started listening and I forgot all about technique and just enjoyed the brilliance. Now I have to watch it again but I'm somehow not sad about that

I am trying to answer the same question. Imo I doubt it's even the one in the video, as the audio seems to come from some previously recorded studio grade source. Beside the extreme violin playing, also the processing is amazing.

I was the First Private Artist Pupil of NM/Same Concert Artist Mgmt Roster of Solo Violinists with my Mentor of over 3 & 1/2 years in London, the great Nathan Milstein, who never castigated others nor thought any harsh things of those who didn't play near to himself. To the contrary, NM, was kind & very human who knew Who he was yet never wanted bling publicity ~ He went faithfully to his Alter of JS Bach every day of his 88 yr life & loved the Violin as no other ~ As his invited T.A. Assist -Help for his Nathan Milstein Int'l Violin Master Course/s in '70s Zurich, Switzerland, I witnessed Milstein in varied mentoring situations and I can say, after being only 1 of 7 Jascha Heifetz original artist pupil's subsequently filmed & now available on YT + other sites, that Nathan Milstein was The Only Peer of Mr. Heifetz, whom he revered & JH revered Milstein, telling me so at his {JH} Malibu Beach House one July 4th, '76 evening visiting Mr. Heifetz, and the subject of Milstein was brought up by my Artist Manager to which Heifetz smiled warmly & full of compliments re Milstein!! Few ever witnessed their warmth toward each other but I was blessed to see and hear them both speaking so emotionally of the other!! Magdiel Burdiles ~ from NM 1st Concert Artist former Jascha Heifetz private 'Pupil' in London, I know 'Paganinianna' very well as NM taught it to me during my over 3 & 1/2 years study 2 to 3 X a week {min 3 & 1/2 - 5 hrs each} w/much emphasis of musical technique & NM uncanny bowing, It's upsetting hearing formidable violinists performing this pearled NM original composition, inspired by the Theme of Paganini's 24th Caprice, but composed over many years w/alterations made via NM's maturing ideas. Hearing Guy Braunstein 're-do' a Pearl in all compositional aspects was/is a shock & reading your musing if or 'Milstein could approve the changes ...' compelled me to step up to set the record straight! NM was the Only Peer of Heifetz, & so acknowledged by JH, himself, to me as I had rare fortune studying w/both Icon's of Violin Art, whilst continuing to stay close to both 'til their individual passing 's💧💧 I know Mr. Milstein would Not like so many deviations of Guy Braunstein, as Rachmaninoff, if his glorious 'Theme & Variations for Symphony Orchestra' were in a slightest way 'altered', & by a pianist not knowing him telling people Rachmaninoff didn't compose this hallowed piece performed continuously all over the global concert world!! Mr. Braunstein, writing to me, has stated Milstein 'arranged' Nicolo Paganini's piece (24th Caprice) & in so claiming this dismisses the 'author', Nathan Milstein, of ever having even composed this NM solo violin fantasy!! I wish to tell you that I know Mr. Milstein would be very angry w/tampering of his years in finally publishing 'Paganinianna'=NM's Music Child. Second: I have not made enough research to agree or disagree with what you're saying there (wich I find interesting), I appreciate the correction and information. Third: the reason why I said "Milstein could have approved those changes" (enfasis in: could) It's because Milstein was know for creating, changing stuff, "Master of invention", that's why I said that he may have approved changes in pieces. Now with that said, I do not say that Milstein was irreverent, and change things just because, ruining the style of the piece, you probably know the history of Milstein and the cromatic in Bach, when he told Rachmaninoff that (the cromatic) was not apropiate for Bach. I said it as a praise to Braunstein, more than as a "I know perfectly the style" type of comment. With that said: have a good time, goodbye sjsjsj

As the first Heifetz original pupil of Nathan Milstein, at his London, UK, Chester Square home, of over 3 & 1/2 years, also NM's invited Teach/Assst in Zurich, for Debut & ongoing annual Summer Nathan Milstein Int'l Violin Master Courses, Summer 1970- 72 & on Stand by thru the 70s, I do know Mr. Milstein's intent in his original composition when first sketching Paganinianna, & in his NYC home at the time. I knew NM for 24 years as his later fellow artist colleague on same Roster of Violinists, Ricci, Henryk Szeryng & Nathan Milstein under London Concert Artist Mgmt. My private by NM Invitation involved advanced bowing studies began upon him hearing me play the Chaconne of JS Bach & rapidly pointing out flaws in my Bowing of Bach & specifically in the great Chaconne! Mr. Milstein changed my Franco-Belgium bowing over a period of 1 + years to an NM mirrored idea of The Master of The Bow!! As my twice weekly work of minimum 3 & 1/2 hours & up to 5 hrs pr tutorial, brought so much smooth styled bowing which liberated one's bowing & in Turn, musical freedom to then at last produce sounds & moods via Milstein bowing techniques to be as one heard Music in one's inner mind/head! During my over 3 & 1/2 year advanced & by second year, Invite to assist NM in Zurich, those in need of extra help re NM bowing, I came to know The N. Milstein's most well and Mr. Milstein shared some of his non published sketches in pencil with me discussing Paganinianna! I do know quite well, Milstein was a perfectionist & Paganinianna was edited many times by NM & prior to its being published. I can authentically say that Mr. Milstein would not have liked Mr. Guy Braunstein's 'interpretation' Fast & Furious minus Love or any hint of tenderness as played hard by Mr. Braunstein on YT. I rather doubt Milstein would've approved of the out of sync w/Composer of the re-composed Paganinianna of Guy Braunstein's more rugged & it is difficult to write in Print, what if spoken one on one would be nice & understood, but knowing NM as I did {24 years} I'm sure NM & being so detail oriented w/colour musically, would be upset with the stretched minus musical kind emotiveness not There. Please do listen to Nathan Milstein, the Only Peer of Jascha Heifetz {btw, my first Iconic Violin Mentor, in our JH Violin Master Classes USC, & in Our JH VMC films - mine, Khachaturian, JH-7, Elisabeth Matesky {Russian version. In short: Ok Boomer.. Your credentials (& the legacy you proclaim to uphold) by no means lend credence to your assertions; rather the mere fact that they are supposed to vindicate your judgement is in and of itself denotive of the substance your evaluation of Mr. Braunstein's interpretation boasts (or doesn't). Indeed, this "monumentalistic", I may dare to say sacrilegious, approach to your critique of the interpretation of this piece is most common with musicians, whose clinging to the monument is poisonous to evolution, advancement etc., which is indicative of your own inadequacies rather than Mr. Braunstein's and evinces your self-imposed offendedness that stems from a toxic bond with whatever you are acquainted with. Your claim to uphold an absolute measure of the adequacy of an interpretation proves precisely that your (rather unsophisticated) comment tells us not anything about Mr. Braunstein's interpretation, but primarily about your idiosyncrasies and desperate worship of some legacy or similar entity that constitutes a part of your musical identity, which you are unwilling to give up. Please do be sure that this subliminal egoism has fully discredited your argument, which in and of itself attempts to put forward the ridiculous proposition that I and others, having enjoyed this rendition, should revise our enjoyment and instead condemn Mr. Braunstein for his supposed impertinence.
