The reason could be the tiny electrical receptors called ampullae of Lorenzini that speckle the area around sharks’ noses and mouths.” So maybe the shark just finds it pleasurable and recognizes the man as somebody who will do that.

There is so much projection on your comment, it makes my head spin. The only mindless eating machine in this world is the human. Humans kill 6 month old babies in the tens of millions per day. I'm not going to call them pork or veal. Those words mean nothing. They are quite literally infants. Also people kill 80 million sharks a year. Jesus man. Open your eyes. It's people that are killing machines. No one else. All other species are an angel in comparison with us. What change?! The shark didn't change. They've always been peaceful! It's us that have blindly listened to our uneducated, ignorant baby boomer grandparents and their bullshit. It's us that need to change.

I don't know where this perception of sharks eating humans comes from. They have to gauge everything with their mouths and like the person said in the video it's always a case of mistaken identity. But one fact everyone just seems to gloss over every time is that humans kill around 100 million sharks a year... Yeah, so I wouldn't even care if they did try to eat every human they saw or smelled which they don't do.

Sharks also have a sixth sense, electrical receptors in their nose. It allows them to pick up on the small electrical signals that an animal’s body gives off. In our case that could be something like when the muscles around our hearts contract to pump blood. My guess is these electrical signals could vary slightly between individuals and that plays a big role in how she’s able to identify people without visual differences.

I like the dynamic. He is showing people that sharks are affectionate, gentle (albeit clumsy) animals. You can see the other fish and sharks casually swimming near the divers. But also, I wonder if Emma’s bond shows the other sharks that they’re safe with him.

There are a million videos where the person returning after being away for a long time meets their dog and the dog is never 100% sure until it smells the person and then starts freaking out. I'd say that vision has very little to do with it; at first they think they recognize the voice and then smelling confirms it.

well it's true, sharks have poor eyesight (they have an excellent nose instead they can smell blood from miles away) so if they see someone splashing around they think it's a fish and attack then after the bite they're like "yuck it's a human I'm out peace". They don't normally attack humans unless the human in question does something to attract the shark or do something stupid to enrage the shark. That's why when it's clear water like where this guy is they can differentiate humans and don't bother with attacking humans. BUT that doesn't mean it's safe in clear water :P IF a shark has never seen a human of course it's going to come to take a bite and see what this thing is.

Ever wonder where golden retrievers came from? Guess what - people came across OUTLIER wolves that liked to socialize with humans, and they bred them. You could possibly do the same with sharks, but that wouldn't mean that most are not still dangerous - just as are wolves to this very day.
