No-one understands the sounds that can be got from a guitar better than Guthrie. His album 'Erotic Cakes' is incredible. Apparently you have to have matching initials to become a member of The Aristocrats - Guthrie Govan, Bryan Beller and Marco Minnemann!

Just the fact that he improvises this over backing tracks on the fly. The people at JTC said he only took a cursory glance at the chord sheets, and then went ahead. Even the amazing solo on the so-called "Remember When?" backing track was like his first improvised take, and it's gold. And it's not only the note choice and phrasing and everything, it's these little technical (unique to guitar) things he throws in, like little percussive elements and funny bends (like pre-bending and then de-bending as he picks notes in half steps down, making a chromatic descending line from out of nowhere) and so on. It's not really all that difficult to do, but who does it on the fly and makes it fit so well on the first try so to speak? His improvised solos always sound like they've been written and rehearsed for ages beforehand, they're *that* good, and that's what's so unique about the man.

Ooo the hairy one! Yeah, he’s dope. I like his versatility there’s nothing he doesn’t do. Another guitarist I really like is Mike Dawes, nothing he does ceases to amaze me! His tribute to EVH (RIP) Jump was just crazy! I reckon 100% Belle would ❤ him!

I've been watching Guthrie play since the 90s. He's from my home town, Chelmsford, which otherwise is one of the dullest places in the Universe. The cool thing about him is that he has absolutely no ego whatsoever. If you want to chat with him, just buy him a beer. I quite often watch him doing small gigs with his fellow band-member, and my friend Zak Barrett on sax (who is, incidentally, phenomenal). They were both in Guthrie's original band, 'The Fellowship'. They still get together to play gigs. Guthrie's brother Seth plays bass (he is also excellent) and they have the amazing Pete Riley (who tours with major bands) on drums, and John Dutton on keys, another supremely gifted musician. Occasionally, Zak's wife Holly, also a fine saxophonist will join them.

I can listen to Guthrie talk music all day. Dont understand most of what he's talking about, but love it. Its like listening to a scientist talk about the parameters of space.

You two should do some of The Aristocrats! His supergroup that is just unbelievable. I'd recommend Furtive Jack for an idea of what they can do!

You might mention that he plays often for Hans Zimmer. Most recently on 'Dune' parts 1 & 2.
