This is the side of orchestral concerts that nobody knows exists - when Dudamel and a bunch of Venezuelans get together and play Leonard Bernstein, it becomes a giant party.

Well said Sir . Concerts like this need more exposure to make young people to take an interest in learning to play an instrument , and the general public to attend concerts .
I love the response of the audience

Classical music has always been cool.
English author's (Shakespeare) play originally set in Italy (Romeo and Juliet), reimagined in New York (West Side Story) by an American born Jew (Leonard Bernstein), performed by a Venezuelan classical conductor (Gustvao Dudamel) and broadcasted on German TV. What's not to love?

The sad thing is if someone like Bernstein wrote something like this today it would be called "cultural appropriation"
Wow, this has left me speechless. So much energy and so much going on, it almost felt as much of a theatrical performance as it was a musical performance. Love every bit of it!
Why is there no "love" button here?! Absolutely wonderful, this! The crowd knowing the "lyrics", the orch with such energy, but still playing beautifully, so much fun all around! Just fantastic!

Best recording of Mambo in my opinion.
when they were spinning the trumpets I think I had a heart attack. also literally the band was carrying that while the orchestra got to fool around. still fun thoo
Credo di non aver mai visto e sentito così tanta energia in un'orchestra esplodere in quel sistema. E' davvero incredibile ....Unica.... Grandissimo Dudamel!!!!
The added drumset on this is absolutely stunning

That is not classical music....that is twentieth century music composed in the 1940s-50s!
@glitterstormed

The word "Classical" is also used to describe a genre and not necessarily a specific time period. For instance, the Brahms Violin Concerto is considered to be "classical" music even though Brahms is very much a Romantic-era composer. The Symphonic Dances from West Side Story are definitely considered to be a standard orchestral work in the classical world. The use of the word in this case does not refer to the Classical era.
@michaelbay8438
6 жыл бұрын
The term "classical" is frequently misused by laymen to be understood as anything that is not pop/rap/jazz, but personally for me, I feel like that is a misrepresentation and overgeneralization of music, which has many distinct genres.
