For yall who don't know it, all of the animation was taken from one of the highest grossing animated films of all time: Fritz the Cat. It was also the first animated feature to receive the NC-17 rating for it's uber realistic portrayal of life in the 60s.

One of Common's greatest verses 🔥

Hey All. To answer some questions about the video, I edited this as well as several others for Guru and Solar (I'm Jazzy, Jazzy Ways, Step In To The Arena, to name a few). They were always very nice to me and I was saddened by Guru's passing. Solar came to me with the idea of using footage from this classic animated film 'Fritz The Cat' in the video, but no real guidelines as to how. In the past, I had done some spoof re-edits (guess they're called 'mash-ups') which you can see in my channel. Anyway, I started syncing some of the lyrics to dialogue of the characters, and they loved it, so I tried to do that as much as possible with Common as the cat and Guru as the crow. And then just fill in where it seemed somewhat relevant to the lyrics and rhythm. Looking back, I probably tried to force the 'syncing' a bit too much. But the song is so nice that it hopefully all blends together into a vibe. Anyway, again I always liked working with those guys.

@@sethwalsh2221 Yeah y'know, I never really listened to hip-hop except when I was using it for a film or such. But I really enjoyed working on their songs and dug what their music was all about. Did some documentary stuff of their overseas tours and gained tremendous appreciation of the kind of performers they were. And again, they were always very nice to me, and they always seemed to have a good handle on what they were doing.

First saw the video when MTVu aired it at the College of Staten Island. I immediately recognized Fritz the Cat and search for the video after classes were done. Fan of this song since then.

He said, "Betrayed by some that I fed not to mention", and I can relate, but it's all good cuz God is great. I got nothing but love for ya. 🌌💜rest in peace Guru💜🌌

The name of the movie used in this video is "Fritz the Cat", Ralph Bakshi's 1972 adaptation of Robert Crumb's underground comix. Crumb hated it, I actually think it's pretty faithful to his work. Anyway, whoever edited this music video did a hell of a job! Plus the track is great, too bad they faded out before Bob James' keyboard solo.
