'Gura To Jine' by Vijay Sardeshmukh

Музыка

गुरा तो जी ने ज्ञान की जड़िया दई
वाही जड़ी तो म्हाने प्यारी जो लागे
अमृत रास की भरी
The guru has given
a root of wisdom,
That root is very dear to me,
filled with sweet nectar.
We often look for the ready-made fruit of wisdom, to be delivered by a perfect guru, which will bring us instant transformation. The true guru, however, is one who gives the root of wisdom, says Kabir. Then loving and tending to that root, and aiding its growth into a tree, is work that belongs to us.

One can experience a deep sense of quietude in the music of Vijay Sardeshmukh. When we first met him, it was straight from the hurly-burly of a film shoot that we had arrived at his Pune home, only to be hushed by the slow and meditative experience of Vijayji tuning his tanpuras. He has absorbed a fine-tuned precision and profound reverence for the sound of the tanpuras from his guru, the legendary classical singer Pt. Kumar Gandharva. Many of us first heard this song from Kumarji - thanks to his extraordinary excavation of folk songs from the Malwa region of Madhya Pradesh. Here Vijayji sings it on the 3rd and concluding night of the Bangalore Festival of Kabir in 2009. Contact Vijay ji's son Swaroop Sardeshmukh at +91-9403357210, swar.surel@gmail.com.

The Festival of Kabir was organized by the Kabir Project, Srishti School of Art, Design and Technology along with several other partner organizations in Bangalore in February 2009. It brought together singers from India and Pakistan in an immersive week-long event that included film screenings, live music concerts and talks.

Marvellous. Befitting tributes to his Guruji. Just as Sanjay ji rightly pointed out apne guruji Kumar Gandharv ji ke chaap chupa nahi sakte.

Kaali is signified as the demon who has consumed the entire world through desires, attachments. Every person in the world without fail is a victim to these. Man = God + Desires But this demon is extremely scared of the 'satguru'/'true guru' who is the dispeller of darkness, attachment through wisdom. The guru gives the wisdom to eliminate the desires and attachments to reach the original nature of a human being. Shivguru further suggests that surrendering to sattva gunas, he crossed these vices to enlightenment.
