Exactly, just don’t take a 3,000+ psi pressure washer to it and it’s fine, degreaser and garden hose does just fine.

Love how he just goes to town spraying foam all over 😃 no fear. Many have tried this method and had bad results, not all cars are made the same. Some act up with water still lingering in some electrical components. Some, absolutely nothing. I've been using Simple Green for 35 years doing it the same way he sprayed the foam, then rinse thoroughly. I immediately hit it with an electric leaf blower and make sure it is very dry before you restart. Old school cars with distributors or those with mass air flow sensors that can get wet, cover with a Walmart bag or something like that. Connections, spray a dab of WD-40 and will help disperse moisture, just make sure your degreaser doesn't get on that spot. Wipe it down later if you like after blow drying. That's the way I've been doing it on classic Porsches, Toyota, Honda, and Classic GM cars.

I only cover k&n open element filter with a plastic bag and hit everything with the high pressure washer. Worst thing ever happened was I forgot to remove the bag from intake and it collapsed my filter damaging it.👍👍👍

You can put a grocery bag or tuck a garbage bag in over your alternator. To do the hood, a couple of garbage bags over the entire engine bay and taped with something gentle like masking tape will work to catch any stray cleaner and your rinse water. Some people take the extra step of removing the battery and then electrical is 'out of the equation' while you clean - plus you can clean your battery tray area with the battery out.

The degreaser works very well however be aware that it can leave a toxic smell on your Engine. I thought I pressure washed my engine pretty good but boy does it smell and smoke. I’m going to give it another pressure washing to see what happens. Apparently and I do remember this as well at the toxic smell and smoke eventually burn off but I’ve never recalled it being this bad. Possibly because the car has 202,000 miles on it and I don’t think the prior owner ever cleaned it and it’s had its share of oil leaks.

If you have a newer vehicle then just unplug the battery and avoid the alternator and electrical. Also avoid the windshield wiper fluid cap because it will take the ink off the emblems. Other than that you should be fine if you let it dry thoroughly after washing. It was 110 in the Texas summer when I did this. I seriously just cleaned everything and unplugged nothing. But it was dry in minutes. A year later my vehicle is still fine after using it multiple times. 😁

  • @AzalofForossa

    Жыл бұрын

You should never use tire foam on an engine bay, that shit is nasty and will make your engine bay much worse, all it does is move everything down and into cracks and crevices you'll never be able to clean out. But it'll make it look shiny temporarily, so if all you care about is making it look shiny for now, go ahead, it's like the old WD40 trick on paint, makes it pop and look great till it fades and it'll look much worse than it did before you applied the wd40. Also never wash an engine while it's running, I've sprayed open alternators many times and have never had issues, just let it drain out for a couple minutes before starting and it'll be like the water was never there.

If it's already fairly clean, you can just spray on detailing spray/stuff like 303 aerospace on all the plastics and buff with a microfiber to bring them back to a nice black finish, but for grease/oil spots you will want a degreaser, and you'll want to rinse it off/wipe it off with a damp towel, it's not good to let degreasers dry into things. Every engine is different, and if you spray a connection by accident it won't just spontaneously combust, you just don't want to be spraying directly into alternators, into spark plug wells (like coil packs), carburetors, or fuse boxes/computers. Put a bag on the alternator/carb/computer and you're pretty much good to go to just hose down an engine, but keep in mind where water will drain, on my 2004 mustang water will 100% drain into spark plug wells because of how the intake is designed, so get compressed air and blow out all the plug wells after rinsing and it's 100% good to go.

I think it would be a good idea to do a little research on the chemicals in the product. Some are harmful to plastics over a short period, while others are toxic to the soil and water system. Wouldn't want to be handed a hefty fine because of the run off from, what used to be, a simple car wash in your own driveway. How about using dish washing liquid, through a foam cannon and letting it sit for 5 - 10 minutes, before washing it off? Anyone try that? "Beware of shiny objects" is something to keep in mind.

I always use simple green as the all purpose cleaner of an engine bay, a good degreaser, and good all around cleaner for everything in an engine bay. Cuts through dried up grease and oil easily, and won't harm paint or plastics under the hood (simple green isn't good left undiluted on paint for extended periods of time, so I cut it 50/50 and it's still plenty powerful on grease and oil and gives me peace of mind that I can leave it a tiny bit longer on the entire engine bay to cut grease and oil without harming paint). Hose off thoroughly, then spray on 303 aerospace on everything and buff into all surfaces to bring back protection that simple green may have stripped.

Next time use a greasy engine, your engine is dusty it would clean up with water alone, don't need those products.
