Lance hendrickson is one of the most underrated actors in the industry. He never disappoints, and ads heaps of character to all of his roles. After watching my share of cheesy westerns, this is a breath of fresh air.

Finally, a western with a story. The dedication and love of a father can be incredibly strong.

Lance is the top pistoleer in my book, never disappoint.

This is the second time that I’ve watched this movie… I’m sure that I’ll watch it many more times. It has a really poignant & moving story & Lance Henriksen was an EXCELLENT choice for the lead role, perfectly capturing the multi-faceted character of Frank Morgan.

For once a western with a great storyline. Acting by all first-rate. A very emotional ending will leave all viewers with tears in their eyes! A wonderful music score also. Lance Henriksen and the actress who played his daughter are superb.

That actor that played a young brat , I believe was called Shannon is a biggest casting tragedy in history of the film. Everything was going suprisingly wonderful up to the point of his appereance. What a failure, my dear.

A great absorbing western. The story line was natural in every sense.Great acting with no GUNG HO heroics with a very moving scenario with no over acting. GREAT ENTERTAINMENT.

The blank, almost quizzical, look that comes over Lance's face just before the final draw is one of my favourite moments of the film..I wonder if Lance came up with it coz I can watch that final gunfight again and again...genius..

Quizzical is a good word. Like the look on Magua’s face in ‘Last of the Mohicans’ as the girl throws herself into the void rather than face a life with him. I thought maybe Frank was bluffing by doing a ‘I’m about to pass out here’ face. The number of little nuances in this, and the opening gunfight, and indeed by Will Shannon, and the psyching out are very credible in a situation where confidence and mind-games could be the difference between life and death. c.f. The Outlaw Josey Wales: Bounty Hunter: A man’s gotta make a livin’ somehow Josey Wales: Dyin ain’t much of a livin’ boy

I do not know if I have ever seen a Western I enjoyed as much! Exciting!! This guy is pure and simple, the consummate gunfighter! I have never watched a Western with a gunfighter of his style, and class! Note his dress! Note the manner in which he wears his gun belts! Note the pearl handled knife sticking up from the back of his belt! Note his unique hat! Note the manner in which he mounts, and dismounts his horse! Note those steely eyes, and his scarcity of words! Thank you so much for bringing this to us!

Every bit as good as the first time. This is what a good western should be. Shawn could have been a better bad guy but aside from that the story was well crafted with superb acting. This is type of movie you want to watch more than once.

Thank you very much. Despite having seen thousands of Westerns, I didn't know of this film; and now I have to say it's up there among the very best. All the acting good, with vivid characterisations. Great direction. Camera work intelligent: I particularly liked the horse movements, especially some in the introductory sequence; and the close-to-the-side shot just before the abduction reminded me vividly of my own sensations when on horseback. Music top-notch, too, by the composer Lee Holdridge. The style of costume, and the way he wears both his clothing and his weapons, is more authentic than what we see in many films about this period, and is reminiscent of original drawings and paintings from the time, and some early photographs. The criticism about the seventeen or eighteen shots from two conventional revolver cylinders is valid, but the film as a whole is so good that one is happy to dismiss that little imperfection. Above all the story is unusual, interesting and plausible, with real and deep emotional springs. An authentic tragedy, in the Greek sense. Men do act stupidly over women, it's true, but one really felt for him when he discovered the real reason for his recall. And so many other really excellent moments and imagery. This writer [who was in this case also the director] knows his trade! Unforgettable. Thanks for the upload.

They definitely need more realistic movies like this that even provide a decent plot and a message to go with it

For a modern day made western it's a good one. Lance is a very good actor, this movie proves it. Kay Lenz has always been superb in her roles. I highly recommend you take a look at this movie it won't disappoint you👍👍👍

A great movie, as much a family drama as a western, with the father /daughter meeting at 48 mins. being very well written / acted/ extremely moving and delicately created within its unusual circumstance.

Me too. My top westerns were: The Outlaw Josey Wales. Unforgiven. Pale Rider. I put Gunfighter’s moon fourth. Then joint third. Now it has usurped pale rider. (There are similarities. Esp. The ending.) Any idea why the word ‘moon’ is in the title?

This are the kinds of movies that made AMERICA GREAT

Great movie. The Shane element at the end was nice. Some of the best parts are at the beginning, well actually the whole movie was great. The beginning scenes in the Bar, when the two pistoleros are standing there as Frank appears. And Frank steps out into the progressing Light. His stand up pose, stop. Turns pose, stop. And another pose, stop. GREAT! Later as he dismounts his horse at the Bar. Pose, stop. Pose, stop. Wow! Nice. Go back and re watch those scenes.

From beginning to end a fantastic movie. The long musical trip of the duo half-brother horse-riders to their death in the title scene makes a beautiful circular movement ending up with the lone rider leaving his daughter and everything behind. Beneath the surface the father's deep yearning for his daughter and her warm response without knowing about it is made touchy by the details. "I want Christine to be proud of her father," says Linda, the mother. Tears hardly could be resisted at the end.

I used to watch this show on cable years ago born in 1977 some i was like 18 when this came out. I love the cast of this movie lance henriksen is one of my all time favorite actors he has been in so many great films over my life good guy or bad guy he always kills it. Pumpkinhead, aliens, near dark, he has been in lots. Im a big fan also of kay lenz she is plenty good shows stripped to kill and house plus others and i like ivan sergei he is great in the john woo once a thief trilogy. This is a damn fun gun fighter movie if you like that and i love Gunfighter movies this is great pretty good story as well i will be watching this more id probably buy this its that good thanks for the upload good flick

One of the best westerns I've watched !!

When I watched Blind Justice with Amanda Asante thought that was the ULTIMATE but boy , this one stumbled across , not only does it depict a TRUE AMERICAN GUY with 'balls' it rips at the heart strings This is got to be the ULTIMATE CLASSIC will watch it again tonight and again and again that guy, his charisma 'knocks ya' socks off' what a 'stunner'
