Gundam Wing: War & Peace With Mecha

Фильм және анимация

Gundam Wing's pacifist message has as much to say about Japan's past as it does about humanity's future.

I can't tell you how happy I am this video exists. Gundam Wing was one of the most formative shows of my childhood, and it's more relevant now than ever

Great video, I love it when fiction tells us about who we are as people. Would you like to go over any books with us?

It can be, because there's a lot there, especially in the Universal Century timeline. But there's no obligation to watch ALL of it. Feel free to pick and choose at your leisure. There's a lot of good entry points into the series. -Gundam Wing, which it hasn't aged very well, would be one of those. There are a lot of re-used animations and the dialogue can be a little off at times. Stellar MS designs though. -You can watch the Mobile Suit Gundam movies, which are three movies that sum up the original fifty-episode series pretty well. That's a decent entry into the UC timeline and from there, there's a lot of excellent direct follow-ons, like Zeta Gundam, Stardust Memory and 08th MS Team. -I can also recommend Iron Blooded Orphans or Witch from Mercury, two recent and well-received standalone series. Excellent animation and fantastic characterisation, plus some insanely well-designed suits.

It's not that hard to be honest. Gundam is split into one main timeline that is the Universal Century and many other alternative universes that try to explore the orignal ideas in a different manner and they all usually contain a main series with maybe a movie or an OVA. I would suggest starting with Gundam 00, Iron-Blooded Orphans or go for the UC's OVA side stories like 08th MS Team, War in the Pocket and Thunderbolt

'The 08th MS Team' is a favorite of mine (hence the reason I felt compelled to sneak some footage from it in this video). While it is part of the broader UC timeline, I think it stands alone quite well and doesn't require much in the way of prior knowledge to enjoy. Incidentally, since it also came out in 1995, I can't help but think that Sunrise dedicated its best animators to the 08th MS Team over Gundam Wing.

YOU!!! YOU TRULY TOOK THE WORDS OUT OF MY MOUTH whenever I try to explain to normies that Gundams are NOT JUST giant robots! 🙏🙏🙏🫡👍👍👍👍👍 I had to explain that most of the Gundam series, notably UC and AC, even Gundam 00, and Seed, have that message of “achieving peace through war solves nothing”, and the Japanese-being the first-hand witnesses to all these, and the only country to have faced getting nuked (which most ending parts of Gundam series are the amalgamation to this notion e.g. asteroid bases and giant lasers that will eradicate humanity) are the very ones who could convey this message into a three-dimensional story. Thanks for this video piece, I could just link your video to normies now than just keep repeating myself. ❤🙏🙏🙏🙏
