@@ASS_ault Which one, Vasily? Edit: Considering it's been several days since I posted my reply to you and received none in return, I'll assume that you were referring to my comment regarding prototype models. First of all, my "a Russian starts crying" comment was meant more as a joke. Anyway, I've got to say that you might just be right. After doing some additonal research, I believe the following needs to be pointed out: The designation "AK-47" did appear in some of the trials reports. Moreover, operator's manuals issued in 1949, the year the rifle was adopted by the Soviet Armed forces as "Kalashnikov's 7.62mm Automatic Rifle, model of 1947", did refer to the rifle as "AK-47" (assumingly, by mistake). However, the manuals issued in '52 would use the designation "AK" instead of "AK-47". While Kalashnikov himself did often refer to the rifle as "AK-47", Kalashnikov Media (affiliated with the Kalashnikov Concern) uses the designation AK. Since I could find no definite answer as to what the correct designation of the rifle should be, I'd say that both variants are correct.

I remember watching a history channel (back before the present era) show in gun dealers where they inverviewed one of the guys Yuri is based off of, he was talking about the post-cold-war era where he was commissioned to buy a submarine, the seller asked "with missiles or without?" :D What a time to be alive.

Hey Brandon I just thought I’d tell you my theory as to why they used VZ 58’s. in 2004 the assault weapons ban was lifted. When this happened a mass influx of AK style rifles hit the market. When this happened most of them were pretty pricey at first with the exception of the VZ 58. In 2005-2006 dealer price was between 250-300 with a lot of them in stock. You couldn’t give them away because they didn’t take AK mags and (at least in my area) you couldn’t find back up mags or if you did they were expensive compared to AK mags. Also other AK style rifles in this price range would be obvious to any gun guy. For example everyone knows the wasr 10/63 doesn’t have mag dimples and many at the time took single stack mags or the N-pap which would have required a complete stock change. So the short version is it came down to the cost to look authentic.

Basically you are either a commander in chief or an actual army supplier. Official high level gun shows are officially there as a place to present these products to relevant politicians, not to stateless armies (official US contractors aren't actually stateless). Fighter jets usually get their own shows, because they need the runways etc.
