Gumaca Quezon Arana't Baluarte Festival 2024. Celebrating the Feast of San Isidro Labrador

Gumaca's tradition of sharing fresh harvest of fruits and vegetables with the community dates back from pre-colonial times.
When the Spaniards arrived in Gumaca in 1582, they discovered a thriving community of farmers and fishermen on the riverbank facing Lamon Bay. They built a church and a fortress in honor San Diego de Alcala, and introduced San Isidro Labrador as the patron saint of farmers and fishermen.
During feast of San Isidro, the locals would hang their harvests of fruits and vegetables to share them with those farmers who were not lucky to have a good harvest.
Later on, the vegetables and fruits were arranged as chandeliers (arana in Spanish) and hanged on arch inspired by the Baluarte of San Diego. The festival became officially known as Arana't Baluarte Festival during the 1990s.
The festival grew bigger and bigger every year, and this 2024, it has expanded to include concerts, street dancing, kariton design contest, court dancing, pamasyalan, prusisyon, and the traditional agawan.
