Howdy friend. I’m a leaf player from the US. I can’t believe I found you on here. Leaf playing is indeed a little known art and it was first introduced to me by my dad sixty years ago. I use a different technique altogether, but I would like to try your style now that spring has come. I am sort of famous for my ability and was dubbed the nickname, ‘Cottonwood’ because I would play leaves from that tree. You are right about finding the right leaves at the right time…you never know until you test them and a bad one can do you an injustice, but a good one can produce whatever the imagination desires. I have played sophisticated tunes from accomplished artists such as Beethoven, without missing a note. If I know it and it’s a good leaf, I can play it. I fold leaves in half,, create a funnel, and hold them with both hands I use my fingers to stretch the leaves and alter the pitch. I sometime slightly shake the leaf to produce a tremolo effect, and my tongue to do the same. The tongue is mostly used to imitate birds.Im sorry to go on so long, but I’m pretty stoked about meeting another musician with a similar, rare ability. I would love to hear from you more if you get time.As a side note, when leaves are scarce, you can always find good , pliable leaves at florist shops or greenhouses. Good sized rose leaves work great! I have considered using artificial leaves, but that might take the fun out of it lol. 🙏
