Namaste everyone, Since the aashada month is coming to an end, we the WoW team would like to present before you a folk song which is very peculiar to this month-The Gullavva Song.

The Gullavva festival , which is celebrated in a unique way in
North Karnataka, is a reflection of rural beauty.
The festival is most commonly celebrated in the jungles of Jakkalli village
of Rona taluk and celebrated on every Tuesday in the Ashada month of Hindu calendar. The festival is celebrated by worshiping the rain with a doll made out of clay. The women and children from the village of Jakkalli , on the call of Gullavva, bring cray from the bank of lake to make the dolls.
They install them in the pallets of Pallade’s house. Gullavva is typically embellished with peanuts,corn ,white saffron , turmeric, saffron ,garland, saree, bodice, waistcoat,earrings, and silk rag. It is customary to make a statue of Goggappa beside the Gullavva and put a cigarette in his mouth.
One of the villagers, Nanda, was quot ed saying that the
Gullavvva worship is of great importance in the preservation and promotion of the rituals, beliefs and traditions of the rural areas. This year it was celebrated hoping that the monsoon and drought crops would go and change the lives of farmers. Natives prayed that corona vanishes and the farmers thrive again .
After the establishment of Gullavva-Goggappa, women and children sing the words of Gullavva and surrender vows and worship them with devotion . One of the special features of this festival is that the women and children of the village sit together and eat prasadas, without any discrimination based on caste or religion.
