Interesting. His left and right hands use different techniques. His left hand was more or less traditional. But the right hand used the more flat finger method very much like Gould.

this is not bach. there is no way you can play this fast on a harpsichord. the people who disliked it are probably the ones who actually understand the music.

badly over-pedalled and messy...for you. I thought it was terrific. He is playing it on a piano and it is his choice to use the piano's capabilities to color the piece.

He was a great pianist, but the prelude was rushed and too careless. Same for the fugue. A few beats slower would have made it probably better.

Overpedalled Technically imperfect and really not very musical.The same hard sound,without nuance or variation except a very odd moment of tasteless "expressive" playing and as for that ending! Stupid!

It's the miking- this isn't a studio recording! You have no idea how grandiose and amazing the sound was in the hall (I was there). He wasn't into perfume and little silly musical effects or romantic phrasing. If there was ever a masculine composer it was Bach (as well as Beethoven) and this music suited Gulda to a T-greatest sets Beethoven Sonatas by a long shot (Argerich agreed 100%). Always Straight forward, no bs, long line and rhythmic precision. This is a live recording and the audio is a total result of poor sound engineering.
