What an amazing performance of the Assad piece at 23:24!

Concerning women in the CG world (starting at 39:45) - I am 67 and I want to say that women in the CG world were far and few when I was studying in my teens and 20s. Liona Boyd, Alice Artz and Sharon Isbin were among the only ones actively touring and recording at that time. The late Ida Presti was certainly known, but recordings of her without Lagoya were difficult to find. I put the guitar down for a number of years, but when I came back and started watching KZread channels like Siccasguitars, Guitar Salon International and other channels over the last several years I saw an explosion of very, very fine female guitarists! Possibly more in Europe than here in the States, but there are certainly plenty here. Over the past, say, 20 years, women have risen to among the top in the CG world and I applaud them all. I'm also happy to see them join the ranks of instructors in major Universities. Let's see how it looks when Karmen and Stephanie are my age! (sorry that I won't be around to see that)

As soon as I saw your face I was like wait a minute how do I know her I’ve seen her face 100 times and then it dawned on me you are from the quartet which I have watched too many times to admit and I listened to the CD over and over and over! You are such a fine guitarist and the work that your Quartet does is so seamless! You make the most beautiful music! truly hauntingly beautiful! I would watch and listen and wonder if it was because you studied together that the four of you had such wonderful synchronicity. How perfect to have Stephanie Jones on! Thanks for the fine interview with my favorite CG artist. I've been playing CG for many years but I haven't gotten any where with it. I think I'm going to try Guitar by Masters. On another note, I was amused by your mention of watercolor. I am a watercolorist and your right - it takes many years to master same as classical guitar. Tell you what, I'll trade you watercolor lessons for guitar lessons!😀

I learned a lot in the first half. Thank you, very helpful. I was disappointed that the usual division of the world to men and women had to come up. There are so many fields in which men are underrepresented but you never hear them complain about it. Virtually all the teachers and administration in my children’s school are women. Why? Gag

Is it just me, or did I just hear a Sting tune credited to some random Slav?

Great conversation. However, I also have to say regarding women in classical guitar, we have a chamber music society here that brings in classical guitarists from all over the world, the last 6 guitar concerts has included 5 individual females and one male duo and the next concert coming up is also a female. If it weren't for people constantly pointing it out I would personally not include gender in my description of who played. The last concert was Cinzio Milani who was one of the best guitarists I think I have ever seen (I'm 69 and have probably seen 200-300 classical guitarists in my life) another fantastic guitarist I would say is Victor Villadangos. I don't think of one as a female guitarist and one as a male guitarist. They are both guitarists who play at a level that sets them in an elite category. Isn't that how we should be approaching musicianship and performance - no gender? And the comment that if two equally competent candidates were present the job should go to the female ? So you want to reverse what was done wrongly to females in the past and correct it by doing that to males now? That male may have had more struggles and difficulties to overcome due to life circumstances. Reverse gender discrimination will not change the past and it will not make things right.
