Guinness Kegerator Setup, Parts, and Pour

Here is a detailed video on my Guinness kegerator setup. The keg has settled for over 24 hours now. The head and temperature are exactly to my liking. The temperature in the kegerator is set to 36 degrees. The beer gas pressure is set at 30 PSI.
Here are the Setup Instructions:
1. Install Tap handle and Faucet onto tower.
2. Run beer lines from faucet and attach to coupler. Insert small rubber washer, which seals the connection between the coupler and beer line.
3. Let keg settle for 24 hours if possible (2-3 hours minimum)
4. Attach regulator to CO2 tank.
5. Attach air line to regulator with regulator valve off
6. Attach air line to U-Coupler
7. Pop off the Guinness keg seal and clean the inside of the keg neck with a dry rag
8. Twist lock the U-Coupler on keg and push lever down to "tap" keg.
9. Turn on gas (All the way on) with pressure valve off
10. Open lever on regulator valve base
11. Dial in pressure by twisting the regulator valve in with a screwdriver clockwise. (You may also have a hand-tightening knob to adjust pressure).
12. Set pressure at 30 PSI. This worked for me with a 4-5 ft air line
13. Set kegerator at 36-42 degrees. I prefer 36 degrees, as I like my Guinness colder.
14. Enjoy!
Post any comments or questions. Cheers!

    Firstly a great setup and video! I am interested myself in creating a similar style setup, if you don't mind me asking what were the approx costs for your setup? Looks like a great pint!

    +Fergus O'Mahoney The kegerator was around 5-600 and free shipping. The coupler and handle was around 100 on eBay. Then the nitrogen tank and regulator.... probably around 150 for those... Then just the keg :)

    Do you have any leads on where to find the same branded tap handle and coupler? I seem to be striking out. Also, glad to know that this one is large enough for two 1/6th barrels and a nitro tank and CO2 tank. What nitro tank did you buy? Thanks for all the information. It's actually been difficult to find anything referencing a dual tap with Guinness in one and a non stout in the other.

    Dan, I found my handle/couple on eBay because I was having a tough time finding them. I may be mistaken, but heard you have to be a distributor or sell Guinness to get a handle. My keg came with a CO2 tank and at my local gas dealer, you have to give a tank to rent from them to prevent them from losing tanks. So, since I turned mine in, I was able to get CO2 or Beer gas tank. Check with your local CO2 companies as they may have the same policies.

    I'm confused. Do you just replace a co2 tank with a nitrogen tank. Im new and just got my kegerator. Looks delicious!

    Jock2Geek Correct, I took my CO2 tank that came with the tank to a CO2/Gas company. To buy gas you had to turn a tank in or buy one of theirs. I was able to turn in my CO2 tank and get a mixed tank with Nitrogen. The gas company I use refer to it as "Beer Gas" and is the 75/25 mix necessary for Guinness. They put their Nitrogen in standard CO2 tanks, then I had to get an adapter from them to connect up to the Nitrogen regulator. If you have a Nitrogen tank it will connect right to the Nitrogen regulator without the adapter to switch the thread size/type. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks!

    What was the model # of the stout faucet you used with your setup? I just picked up an official Guinness tap handle and need a matching European faucet with the mounting pin for the tap handle to work. The tap handle I picked up is exactly like yours....it was pretty tough to find and when I found it I didn't hesitate to buy it.

    I am not 100% sure on that. I actually purchased the faucet, tap handle, and Guinness U-Coupler in a single auction. I think you should be able to find a standard Euro faucet and I would think it would fit. Not 100% positive though. I apologize.

    Is there room for 2 CO2 tanks with the two 1/6 barrels so you can run nitrogen mix for the guinness and just co2 for the second beer?

    ***** Yes, there is room for 2 CO2 Tanks. I currently have a Nitrogen tank on the internal CO2 tank shelf for the 1/6 barrel of Guinness. I then have another 1/6 barrel in there connected to standard CO2.

    I tapped my first keg and it was perfect. Then the second one is all foam. I do not hear the sound of air coming from the faucet. Any idea why?

    Andy, was it better after it settled for a day or two? If so, I would check all lines and make sure the restrictor plate in the handle is clean. After each keg, I clean all my lines and soak all components that the beer touches. Only time I have had foam is with restictor problem, temperature problem, or it had not settled long enough. Hope this helps.

    I am having head, and foamy issues with mine. I started at 30 psi around 35 degrees in the kegerator. I have went as high as 50, and as low as 25. Having issues getting a consistent pour. Any ideas?

  • @kdrof1

    Daniel Keown How much head is on the top? Normal is around the top of the harp on a Guinness glass. I wouldn't go much over 30. I have never went higher than that. I would try around 25. Also, if you ramped it up, it may be under more pressure for a bit until you pour some more beers. So, Id give 25ish a try for a few. Do you have the Guinness faucet? Or just a standard Nitro stout faucet? I am not sure if there are any differences with a standard Nitro faucet and the exact Guinness Faucets restrictor plates... I am just trying to think of some reasons.. Also, running it colder like I do could create a little more head. Give 25 a whirl (I used 27-28 my last keg) and let me know how it looks. It wont be instant, normally I see it even out over a few days of pours. Hope this helps.

    If you go through a keg in 3 months, how many beers is that per night? My local supplier only has the full kegs and I'm trying to figure out if that would be too much for me.

    Im completely new to this so sorry if this is a dumb question. Can you buy smaller barrels of guinness (e.g incase you just wanted enough for a 1 night party/bbq) that would be compatible with this setup?

    Tim, You can get (At least where I live) the standard 1/2 barrel kegs or I just recently picked up a 1/6th barrel which is around 60 12oz beers. I currently am running the 1/6 barrel of Guinness to allow for another 1/6 barrel of another beer. Let me know if you have any other questions. Cheers :)

    +kdrof the other beer that you have in that keg will also need the run off of the 75/25 nitro co2 combo correct? So do you have another stout in there?

  • @kdrof1

    @kdrof1

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Anthony Zampa No. Not necessarily. I have a separate CO2 tank in there connected to the other keg couple. 2x1/6 barrel kegs fit in there with 2x5lb air tanks (CO2/Nitro)

    So you bought the dual faucet kegerator and then converted one side to Guinness/stout right?

  • @kdrof1

    @kdrof1

    Brian Reed Correct, I knew I could fit two 1/6 barrels in the kegerator with at least one CO2 tank/Nitro tank, then hang one on the back if necessary and run a line in. But I lucked out and could run both barrels and both tanks inside with enough space. If I had two CO2 beers, I will look for some type of splitter to share a CO2 tank or just get another coupler/CO2 tank. Currently, I have an IPA on tap with the CO2 then Guinness with the Nitro so I am using both faucets now :)

    How long will the keg last without going bad?

  • @kdrof1

    @kdrof1

    TypeR632 I have kept mine for 3 months without issue and do not notice a difference in taste. Guinness is pasteurized and should have a longer shelf life because of this. I am three months in on my current keg and it tastes fine. At this time, I have about 30 beers left. I am a Guinness nut and would notice a taste difference without question :). Also, I clean my lines after every keg which can help because dirty lines can be a cause of a sour taste. Let me know if you have any other questions :)

    +kdrof I wasn't sure whether it was worth mentioning, then I saw you say you're a Guinness nut so I have 2 suggestions to try out if you're interested: I noticed the level of Guinness was a bit above the harp on the first pour. As you bring it level, try stopping the line at the harp. Also try pouring it just a slight touch longer so the head rises proud of the rim. If you give these suggestions a try, you may be glad you did. Sláinte.
