    Our neighbor had a guinea who adopted her & her flock of chickens. It comes over into our property from time to time but always goes back later. We enjoy watching her chase the grasshoppers & hearing her. We get guinea eggs from time to time from them. They are smaller than our chickens' eggs (yolks are same sz but less whites), but we don't mind. The shell is harder & yolks are always a rich color. My littles adore the small eggs & enjoy the flavor.

    That's interesting about the guinea hens not returning to a nest that has human (or another) scent. It makes sense. It sounds like guineas aren't as domesticated as chickens. Have you cooked with or eaten duck eggs? How would you compare the flavor of guinea eggs to duck eggs? What are their main predators in your area?

  • @LittleCountryCabin

    @LittleCountryCabin

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hey friend! You’re correct. Guineas aren’t nearly as domesticated as chickens. They keep a certain amount of their wild instinct. I have never eaten a duck egg. I need to tho😂. Then I could compare them. We have a huge coyote problem here. Bobcats are close by too. Do you like the taste of duck eggs?

    Don't tell the vegans! Apparently certain foods aren't vegan because we don't have the animal's *consent* to eat them.. imagine them finding out we literally have to steal guinea eggs from the nest without leaving a scent trail 🤣 Really though, this was a very informative video! I had no idea you could even eat their eggs, let alone how similar they are to chicken's. Thank you for sharing!

    We love our Guinea eggs AND our guineas! Their eggs make wonderful cakes. So rich and delicious🎂. If I have one that wants to set I try to leave her alone except making sure she is safe. Poor guineas are such easy prey to the wild things that live in the woods. Seems we humans aren’t the only ones that love their eggs😂. They did roost right outside our barn in a high safe place but sadly we lost both of them just a few days ago. Just breaks my heart😔. They were such a part of the homestead and a huge asset. They would come in the barn anytime we were out there. Miss them so much! It happened in broad daylight. We went to town for a couple of hours and when we returned they were gone. We suspect a bobcat. We’ve seen one fairly close over the last several weeks. Our neighbor has killed 4 so far this year. Hopefully we’ll get this one soon. Thanks so much for asking about them.
