A quick explanation of Jam and her Instant Kill (20:26): Jam is a renowned super prodigy of both martial arts and cooking. However, she has some of the worst luck in existence. She started her cooking career selling her food from a food cart, saved up enough money to buy a building and make it a restaurant, and shortly after it was burned down by a mysterious arsonist. And she has gone through this same cycle multiple times. In Rev 2, she has recently lost yet another restaurant. In the actual instant kill, she begins doing what is expected of a martial arts finishing move, then you can see her thoughts drift to her most recent loss, another hard-earned and beloved restaurant reduced to rubble, and then she puts all her sadness and frustration into the final attack.

The "Surrender" thing was a reference to playable Dizzy not having an Instant Kill in the older Guilty Gear games (except as a boss...and the one in Accent Core which was impossible to input...and kinda lame).

This is a very welcome surprise EDIT: I'd recommend the sister series, BlazBlue or BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle for their Astral Finishes. Also, Guilty Gear is a game of "guess the metal references." Elphelt is Guns and Roses, Sol Badguy is Freddie Mercury (yes, really), and my personal favorite is Venom. There's Zato=1 and the shadow Eddie (Van Halen) who even have a reference to the song Shadow Gallery by Venom to show their relationship... It's goofy. Also as for pirates, that's Johnny and May. She serves under him in a flying pirate ship orphanage thing...

Sol and Ky are the "perennial Ken and Ryu" of the series with a twist; Sol as the first gear wants to destroy the rest, Ky believes Gears can be rehabilitated and brought back into society.

@@gilessaint-loup2426 And Sin is in some sort the Apprentice of Sol who is also the Father of Dizzy (so Sin Grandfather and Ky Father in Law) and Jack-O (or at least the gear Justice which Jack-O is the counterpart) and by Being a Valentine Jack-O is in some sorts the Sister of Ramlethal and Elphelt because the 3 are copies or Aria Hale who was Sol Fiancé but Ramlethal and Elphelt were created by the universal Will and Jack-O by That Man Yeah, the lore is kinda complex also, Dizzy by being an Half Gear is 9 and Sin 5

Some of them have multiple responses based on the target. Namely Elphelt, Faust, May, and ESPECIALLY Dizzy, because everyone has a surrender response. Also, Ky and Dizzy are married and Sin is their son.

slayer’s instant kill contains a haiku randomly generated from a set selection of voice lines, leading to ones that either sound beautiful or make zero sense. he is also possibly the canonically strongest character in the entire series, and his wife is immortal.

I love how every character and their attack's are all references to different musicians and songs. I mean the main character Sol is basically Freddie Mercury.

1:37 Basically, Haehyun fights by piloting a big robot suit, shaped like an old muscular man. In her noral victory animation, she ends up accidentally pressing the "Emergency Ejection" button, and ends up being shot out of the robot's chest.

Fun facts Chipp (white-haired ninja guy) used to be a junkie, but now he's the president of his own country (called Eastern Chipp Kingdom) Bedman is the Freddy Krueger of Guilty Gear. He's comatose, making his bed-robot do the fighting for him in the real world, but kills people in their dreams Dizzy is a pacifist (as shown when she actively tries to stop Necro's (demon wing) attack because it'd destroy the opponent), only fighting when absolutely necessary, especially because she's crazy powerful. Also, each character will have different reactions to her "Surrender" move. Also, each character reacts differently in some of the insta-kills, like Bedman's (where each character is killed by their own fears and bad things from the past), or May's (where each character will have different reactions to being put in the cannon. Some will be scared, others won't even be bothered, and Leo will encourage May to shoot as high as the moon so he can look cool during that)

We’ve been told about Faust and Dizzy and May having different reactions to their insta kills but hadn’t heard about Bedman before and those seem the lost interesting. Seeing peoples nightmares 😀😁😈

One thing I love about this game in particular is how many unique interactions it has. Every single character has a different win-screen quote for every single other character, and there are tons of Instant Kills where every character has a different reaction when you perform it on them - for example, everyone says something different when stuck in May's cannon, everyone has a different exchange with Sin when they're flying through the air, and everyone has Faust do something different to their face. There are also lots of characters with story relationships who get little extra bits when one uses an Instant Kill on the other. For example, the idea behind Dizzy's is that she's effectively a living weapon of mass destruction, but is a pacifist who doesn't want to kill anyone and struggles to control her powers. So she stops herself from shooting the enemy at the last minute, so instead of being "Destroyed", they're so scared after seeing the explosion she causes that they surrender instead - but if you use it on Ky, who's her husband, instead of a terrified expression, he has hearts in eyes. So, fun fact, almost every character in this series is named after a reference to rock and metal music. Sol Badguy's real name is Frederick, he's named after Freddie Mercury and his alias comes from Mercury's first solo (SOL-o) album being named "Mr. Bad Guy". May is named after another member of Queen, Brian May. Ky Kiske is named after Kai Hansen and Michael Kiske, two members of the German metal band Helloween, whose mascot, Jack-O-Lantern, Jack-O's name and mask design come from. Millia Rage is named after a band called Meliah Rage. Zato-1 is instead named after a famous Japanese film character, Zatoichi the blind samurai ("ichi" is Japanese for "one"), but the demon that lives in his shadow is named Eddie, after the famous mascot character of Iron Maiden, Eddie the Head. Chipp Zanuff is named after a band called Enuff Znuff and designed after Billy Idol. Axl Low and Dizzy are named after Axl Rose and Dizzy Reed from Guns 'n' Roses. Johnny is named and designed after Johnny Cash. Venom and Slayer both share their names with bands. I-No is named after Brian Eno, but her design comes form a Japanese singer named Shiina Ringo. And there are so, so many more references, in names of characters, abilities/moves, stages, and even more obscure details. I would highly recommend checking out the Overdrives for this game and also the sequel STRIVE, which are the in-gameplay special moves, as opposed to cinematic finishers like these. I would also recommend checking out BlazBlue, the other original fighting game series made by the same company (which was originally supposed to replace Guilty Gear when they temporarily lost the rights to it), specifically BlazBlue: Central Fiction, the last canon game, which has every character in the series. That series has a lot of different types of super moves: Distortion Drives and Exceed Accels are the special moves that are used in fights, and Astral Heats are the cinematic finishers equivalent to GG's Instant Kills.

So the thing with Dizzy (17:14) is she doesn't want to fight which is why during her "insta kill" she doesn't actually hurt you she just scares the ever living shit out of you by showing you what she could do to you but she gives you a chance to surrender and obviously the opponent takes it

Chipp Zanuff (The white-haired ninja guy who summoned copies of himself) is definetly NOT LAME. Here's some backstory if you care to read (or skim) through it. Also the game has some different dialogue between characters after a fight, so maybe you'd react to that one day. Born in the U.S. during the Crusades (which was basically a hundred-year World War between humans and living magical weapons) Chipp was orphaned shortly after birth. From a very young age, he struggled to make a living in the streets and got addicted to drugs. In order to secure a regular supply of them, he became a dealer for the Mafia. After years of punishing his body with all manner of narcotics, he finally broke down and was to be "disposed" of by the organization. Chipp fled from the Mafia. His pursuers were quickly dispatched by one man, but Chipp fell over and knocked himself out. He woke up in the care of Tsuyoshi, who rescued him but also took his drug stock away. To no avail, Chipp attacked Tsuyoshi to take them back for an entire month. Now completely sober, Chipp realized that he followed Tsuyoshi for another reason, owing him a debt, and asked to be his apprentice. Chipp became a student at the ninja's dojo and trained body and soul in the ways of the shinobi. They lived peacefully together until the Assassin's Guild ordered Tsuyoshi's death for his betrayal. Chipp and Tsuyoshi were training in the mountains when they felt the assassins coming, and they split up. Chipp later realized the main force were after Tsuyoshi. He returned to find the assassins dead and Tsuyoshi dying. Tsuyoshi berated Chipp for coming back for him, and wanted Chipp to promise he would walk away and live his own life. Tsuyoshi passed away with a smile, telling Chipp "I'm glad you're alive." After beating the guild who killed Tsuyoshi, Chipp makes peace with the leader and says that he wants to make a difference and create a peaceful world and replace the lawlessness that was caused by the war, and the best way to do that is to become the president of a nation. He convinces the guild to help him if he succeeds. In the following years, Chipp was travelling when he came upon a rather lawless area in southern Africa that saw little aid after the Crusades. Chipp managed to restore some level of order and reformed it into the Eastern Chipp Kingdom, with himself as the President. The population is roughly in the tens of thousands, and their hearts have been captured by their charismatic president. Also, as Tsuyoshi was Japanese, Chipp possesses a great love of Japan, (which had been destroyed by the war) and even claims to have been born there, but his image of the country is largely idealized and has little to do with reality. Chipp's non-Japanese origin is given away by his speech: some of his lines during combat consist only of Japanese words known to foreigners ("harakiri", "kamikaze", "sushi", "sukiyaki", "Fujiyama geisha", etc.), and whenever he is surprised he will exclaim "What?" in japanese. There is one obvious fault: Chipp's implementation of Japanese Culture Studies into his nations general education curriculum. Most of the information he projects is wrong. Chipp also got his own staff, led by Answer, the red-masked snake-guy talking on the phone.

How nice for this to come out on my birthday. Guilty Gear is one of my favorite franchises. It's world and characters are so fun and interesting. It's definitely a lot to take in if you're brand new. Raven is my favorite character. Despite his appearance, he's actually quite a nice guy. He also happens to be a sadomasochist because he's lived so long that pain is the only thing he can feel.

You guys should react to the newest game (Guilty Gear Strive) if you haven't already. That game is great too, although that one doesn't have insta kills, but it does have intros, outros, and cool supers. They increased the graphics a TON in that one.

whoa guys, guilty gear!!! now THIS is a rabbit hole worth diving into! it's got lore so deep you'll need a few videos to wade through... and neat thing is there's a bunch of fans who made some great stuff about it! recommending that series by WoolieVersus, he did a pretty nice and thorough one ooh and just to add, many of these finishers are customized depending on who's on the receiving end, some of the reactions are hilarious! (some folks also collected compilations of those variations, worth a watch too!)

the demon that Zato wields is called Eddy, slayer got a diffrent instant kill for the whole cast because he tells haikyus to all of them, faust fights with a giant scalpel and his instant kill also has diffrent outcomes on the whole cast, dizzys instant kill also has some different facial expressions on the cast and the badguy in this game is called That Man

also, since Ken seemed to like Raven and Raven is my main, here is some basic info about him: Raven was originally a human German soldier from the time of Holy Roman Empire's reign (presumably the 5th crusade) who got shot by multiple arrows to what was supposed to be his death. but instead of dying he got transported into a white space and then was forced to feel the maximum amount of pain that a human can feel before awakening in a pool of his own blood. from that moment on Raven stopped aging and nothing could wound, let alone kill him. Raven even had multiple attempts of... "self unaliving" (hence the giant screw in his forehead) which all failed, giving him a masochistic desire for feeling pain and a longing for a death he could never have. at some point in his eternal life, he went to a village to help people. sometimes curing the sick and wounded, sometimes doing chores and other times overthrowing tyrants, the last one caused him to be sentenced to death and publicly executed multiple times but of course, none of them worked. and every time he casually walked away from being executed, people treated it like a miracle until everyone in the village saw him as a god. after a while the words of how good he was reached other places and people from other villages and cities asked for his help, which caused Raven to leave that village to help people in other places. after a while he returned to that village expecting a warm welcome back but realized that the people there blamed him for everything wrong that happened while he was gone. in his own words, he realized he was nothing more than a glorified repairman. that experience left him apathetic and depressed, but a few centuries later, he found "That Man" and pledged allegiance to him. becoming pretty much That Man's right hand man and one of That Man's only friends.

That man’s right hand man haha, funny sequence there but really enjoyed learning more about Raven 😀

It's terrific, that you finally got acquainted with best fighting franchise. But too bad, that you won't see truly glorious characters of past games that are Brigit, Robo-Ky and Zappa, since they are absent from later games (they do cameo in plot though iirc) Also, some small additions There were told, that Sol Badguy's favourite band is Queen, and his real name from before he became Badguy was Frederic... yeah. Sin is Ky Kiske and Dizzy's son, which makes him ultra-powerful (due to Dizzy being living super-weapon) and also prince (due to Ky being King of the nation by the time of his birth - not bad career from Chief of Police in old games), but he has rowdy manners and laid-back personality since he was raised by Sol because of important reasons... and Sol is bad model, to pu it mildly. Slayer is oldest vampire in setting, former boss and founder of League of Assassins, and has immortal wife. That's why he drinks her blood before battle nad she is alive by the end of battle. Also, haiku at the end of his Instant Kill is randomly generated, which is hilarious, since it may be complete nonsense and destroyed enemies still say, that it's beautiful or sophisticated. Zato-ONE is dead-for-two-games-now-alive-again boss of League of Assassins, and he predicatably has identity crisis. In GG2 generation we were playing by his pet shadow Eddie that just dragged Zato's corpse around as vessel. Doesn't help he is a little bit sociopathic and wants new body. Millia Rage is former Assassin, was in love with Zato and also her hair is her deadly weapon. Venom is Zato's heir as boss of Assassins, he was saved by him and understandably has a little bit (very much) of crush on him, which doesn't help since Zato was dead for like 3 games. Faust is insane but mostly good-natured illegal doctor that operates on Rule of Funny and Cartoon Logic as whole character design. He is also former serial killer. Kinda. He wasn't himself back in the day. Jack-O, Elphelt and Ramlethal are walking spoilers for last two GG. Bedman is... how to put it? He invades people dreams as nightmare and also dreaming himself in real time, more or less one of the most powerful characters of the game and villain of the game. Well, not main one, but kinda like brute that is killed in very inhuman manner at the end of the film. Only he isn't killed, iirc. Johnny Sfondi is most notorious Flying Pirate of the setting with female-only crew (May is part of it). He is probably one of the most skilled non supernatural characters in game. Leo is Ky Kiske co-King, so that's why he cite laws and has royal guard. I-No is walking spoiler for entire franchise Jam Kuradoberi became Bounty Hunter to earn money to open restaurant in old games... apparentely, this restaurant was ruined and now she does it again

@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Also each member of the Jellyfish Air Pirates are named after the calendar months, also when Johnny rescued them.

So the deal with that one girl Baiken with the long red ponytail and eyepatch is that she's a wandering samurai because her whole style is based on those old Japanese samurai fighting movies called the Chanbara genre. Including with the settings in her intros and the narrator that talks while she's on screen, she's missing her right eye and right arm too

I HAVE WAITED FOR THIS ONE FOR SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO LONG!!!! also you could probably check out all the Astral Finishes from the Blazblue series. Blazblue is made by the same company that developed Guilty Gear (Arc System Works) and it was a spiritual successor / temporary replacement for when they kinda lost the legal rights to most of their characters.

Yeah, guilty gear is known for its ridiculous character designs and animations lol. This game was actually pretty revolutionary, no other game at the time had an art style and animation quite like it and some of the developers actually held a conference where they taught people how they did it

the reason why bedman is in that bed is because he is so smart his brain will essentially fry itself because it cant process everything so he stays asleep and lets the bed do all the fighting also he has a sister whos coming in strive

Johnny is the captain of the Jellyfish Pirates which May is the first mate. The crew mostly composed of girls which named after "months" of the year.

@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames yes there. There’s EVO Moment 37 that’s shows the fight between Daigo and Justin Wong at EVO 2004. Plus there are in detail videos on how and why that moment became famous.

Guilty Gear is a series I have never played but find interesting and strange. The earlier games has some sick backstory, but then it just devolves into the basic anime stuff.

7:57 May is like: "Get the hell off my ship!" and throws them into airlock.

Also Slayer recited a haiku while sending the opponent in space with ONE PUUUUUUUUUNCH.

Genuinely speaking, I could ask you to react to GG music, as it is legendary enough that people tend to joke that the game is there to promote the album. Which, funny enough, is all done by Daisuke Ishiwatari, who is also the producer AND Art Director of the game! (The guy is fascinating, not gonna lie) Then again, I'm not sure of heavy rock is to your liking, and it might open the floodgates to people asking you to listen all kinds of music. So instead, try to see the following Instant Kill variation videos, if you can: - Faust Stimulating Fist - Faust "Is this me" Instant Kill - Potemkin Buster - Elphelt "Magnum Wedding" - Venom "Giga Machina System" - Bedman "Nightmare Theater" - May "And Then She Said Farewell!" - Sin "Raiden" - And of course, highly requested, Dizzy's Instant Kill All of these moves show custom reaction of each character being used on. And funny enough, same thing happens its sequel "GGStrive". If you need help finding those videos, I can scout them for you! ;)

These are the one for sure that will have the whole cast

Should follow up with the 5 minute video of everyone's reaction to Dizzy's instant kill finisher. They all have hilarious reactions to the mushroom cloud explosion in the distance. One of em even points at it XD

You guys should do one for Samurai Shodown too. It's one hell of a diverse cast and supers, both of which will surprise you 😉

@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames As I recall, one of the latest Samurai Shodown sequels includes a crossover character: Baiken from the 'Guilty Gear' games, seen here (in this video) on the receiving end of all this punishment. So you might not be done watching Baiken getting pwned yet! 😁

You should absolutely see the character trailers from the latest game Guilty Gear Strive. Guilty gear is absolutely amazing and id love to see more reactions from this series.

just so u know, Millia Rage uses her Hair as weapon, that should explain her ultimate a little. And Answer is Chip's assistant in running his country, even during battles he's constantly on the magi-phone talking to ppl till his hp drops below half, then he gets serious. And the girl Slayer bit is his immortal wife, who's somehow immune to his vampire curse so they married. About Dizzy's ultimate, hers is different for every character she fights against, with all reacting differently. As for Bedman, he has to sleep couse if he stays awake to long he dies, so his bed does the fighting while he gives commentary from a different dimention.

I also have a suggestion, the story of this game is actually one big anime, no gameplay at all, so if u want to do something different, go get the game cheap and watch it, its at around a hour and a half long if u add the afterstories to it.
