The new crop of developers and management has stated they are reaching out to more influencers (Twitch, KZread) to get more reviews / gameplay videos. No idea on how successful that is. I can say that I've encountered more KZreadr creators that have devoted more content for this outstanding game. I do what I can to support them all. Princes and Princesses all of them. Raising awareness of this gem of a game is golden IMO. jRocks touches on this, wth the horizontal gear progression, but one of the main draws the game for me is how friendly it is toward gamers that cannot devote large blocks of time to a game, IE they tend to be older gamers and have more family social responsibilities. These are some of the nicest people I have the privilege of knowing when joining the guilds. It is a great way to be social without the weight of too much in-game dependency. The perfect blend of goal based entertainment and socializing with like-minded friends.
GW2 is a finished game, very few bugs and glitches. It’s also not subscription based, which is why my wife and I play it (and guild wars 1) The community also tends to be more mature, which is refreshing for us older players and you don’t need to be god-tier skilled to do well at 90% of the game. It’s definitely worth playing.

@Ginsu Knives yep, the bug out rate for mordy fight is still insane, and they cant fix it , because so few people are doing the content..also the fact that hot sets the alliance up as the evil and stupid fraction. WTF were all those airships supposed to do in the jungle in the first place?
I started 3k hours ago, totally cold. Hadn't heard about the game ever. Started with a ranger cause I have a lot of experience with MMO's and having that second is always good. I bought all of the living world seasons and the expansions by the time I hit 50. I've tried more than a few true MMOs and did spend a lot of time in Eve, ESO, Wow, Tera, BDO and FFXIV. Nothing is as satisfying for me, at this time in my life, as GW2. Nothing. I can take my time off as life demands and not lose anything. I can play, in core, the build I want to. My first full set of ascended are still in my bank. My legendaries are available to all that armour class or weapons wielders. This is the best MMO for me. YMMV.

In regards to turning gold into gems, the system really shines when you can use gold to give yourself little discounts by reducing the overall amount of money you optionally drop into the game for cosmetics or convenience items. 10% here, 25% there, the benefits add up over time. Another cool thing about the system is that there's veterans sitting on mountains of gold that are more than happy to gift things to newbies or guild mates. The fact that you can even do this kind of stuff in a game like this is awesome and I really appreciate that they didn't completely lock everything behind a paywall. Everything in the game can be purchased with in-game currency aside for expansions.

I have 4k+ hrs in the game, and your review is really well thought, I mostly agree with the things you say, good job. One thing which is partially inaccurate. You can convert gold to gems and buy all the living world episodes from season 2 to 5 (which are free to unlock when are released btw, you need to buy those only if you don't login during their release window) however the 3 expansions must be purchased with money, there is no way around it. So to have the full experience some money has to be spent. (Money really well spent imho)
@Jrocks26

You are right, I missed that!
@choonblaze

You can't convert gold to gems with a free account nor you can use the trading post. Living worlds were free when they launched and with the event last year. There is no way to unlock them without cash.
@DunkelBisBunt
Жыл бұрын
@@choonblaze Not very relevant because living world season 3 is storywise tied to Heart of Thorns and thus requires that to be unlocked and living world season 4 and 5 are tied to Path of Fire and thus need that to be unlocked. So if you want to unlock any of those seasons, you need to have bought an expansion already and thus will be able to convert gold to gems. Living world season 1 is free for everyone, which leaves only season 2 that free2play accounts cannot access because of the inability to convert gold to gems. Which people will have to live with when they are completely unwilling to pay anything for the game.

This is a super good overview! Clear, concise, and fair. If I was new, I wouldn't have information overload watching it. Inventory management: I've gotten so good at that, that the new acct I made for Steam is doing fine with just a few 4 slot bags. If you can handle GW2 inventory, you can handle whatever any other game throws at you! And yes, I log in and stare at my character. I'll finish something and stare at my character. If I'm in Mistlock Sanctuary, I'll go brain dead for hours just listening to the music and floating around. And taking breaks to stare at my character.

As an experienced MMO player, one of the things I put GW2 above any other MMO is the mount system. Every mount is fcking awesome and has its role, the beetle and the griffin are specially hard to master. It feels so nice when you became good with than beetle drifts listening to Initial D Deja Vu. However when it comes to PvP. I have always felt that GW 1 was just so much better, competitive and balanced than GW2.

As a person who plays Guild Wars 2 since 2014 and MMO RPGs since... well long i can say that your reveiw was one of the best reviews a new player did for tha game. You was clear to your points without trying to show the possitive or the negative sides of the game more. Also was nice to hear your opinion about the game modes i play more (i am playing WvW now i used to be a PvP tournament player for years) ..i believe by time as you understand the game more you will be able enjoy it even better! Also about game currencies and inventory managment ...Guild Wars 2 has a complicated but fantastic economy ..the more you will start to understand how the economy system works the easier would be for you understand the various currencies and manage your bank and inventory easier.. maybe in a new review you will be able to speak about crafting in the game and other smaller aspects of the game

great review, just on the gold to gem, it's actually very viable since popular continuously running meta event map can net you bout 30g/hour if you liquidate everything, with some other farms like fractals going even higher; though not as high, but one great and consistent farm that had been going on for years now, even free to players can access is the Silver Waste RIBA train can push close to 20g/hour. I'm not the type that can do the same map for longer than an hour, just cutting down trees with 12 toons every hour is pretty sufficient for me

19:02 - the massive amount of currencies are very important to keeping content alive. They are map specific which gets you to play that zone. People complaining about all the currencies fail to realize this. It's purposeful game design used to keep content relevant. Legendary collections also bring you to these maps and often require the currencies. Which I freaking love. All the zones are awesome. Except Draconis Mons. Going for the legendary aurora trinket got me hating that zone lol.
Best review!

For fans of trinity, there are those defined roles on end game content like challenge mode fractals, strikes, and raids. Hell even in open world metas, healers make things and finishing easier. The trinity is just not that much needed when you are leveling to 80 because you do have your own heals, and regenerative traits. Healers are also very much needed in spvp and group wvw.
@jcm2606
Жыл бұрын
Even though there are defined roles, they're not _quite_ like the trinity so anybody expecting hard DPS, healer and tank roles still need to keep an open mind. The game basically doesn't have a tank role since tanks are only needed in certain raids and even then they're just supports with their builds modified to take agro and more comfortably handle different mechanics, healers are more like general supports that provide background healing on top of offensive and defensive buffs, the two buffer roles are literally just DPS or healers that have been modified to provide key offensive buffs, and all roles are still kind of DPS hybrids. Roles are less of a cluster fuck compared to how they were at launch, but they're still quite loose compared to other MMOs.

@@ThomasLuongo You and I have had a similar game trajectory
I think the biggest thing you missed, and the reason I always end up coming back to GW2 (5k+ hrs) is the community. Most players are chill, helpful and just nice. Yes, sPvP and WvW can get a bit toxic but nothing like say LoL, and if you pug join a group speed running weekly Raids you may get booted if you aren't up to grade. But, in open world content everyone's pretty nice. Need help with something just say in map chat and you'll have strangers helping you out. This is fostered by the game's reward system: when you mine, harvest or log a node it stays there for everyone else. There's no 'kill stealing', you get a hit and you get credit and the same rewards. You get XP for rezzing downed or dead players. You see commander tags and mentor tags all over the maps, you're welcome to join and tag along; world boss trains, bounty hunts, Dungeons, Hero Point trains, Meta Event squads.... just doing events. Heck, tonight I just spent like 3 hours porting people up a Jumping Puzzle that was part of the Dailies. There are groups that teach Raids and Fractals that are easy to find. "Can someone help me this Hero Point fight" and you'll have people showing up with no stake in it just there to help out. You need help with an achievement or finding something on the map, or how 'X' works and you'll likely get responses and maybe even a Guild invite.
At 5:10 The combat does look pretty good... Which class were you playing that you enjoyed the most combat wise? And my second question is, again at 5:10 what clothes were you wearing cuz I loved em... Especially the cape!

Are you really crying that you didn't get enough stuff for free, just for existing? Are you 5?
I know I'll get a lot of shit for this from the fanboys, but I wanna share the real state of gw2, not just the seeminly good side. gw2 is not as shiney as it looks. The base game experience is 10/10. The DLCs are repeating cycles of nothing. The moment you aquire Exotic gear you can choose if you even want Ascended gear or not, the stat difference is minimal. Anything above Exotic is a massive pain to aquire for minimal results (except for Fractals, there you actually need it). I'm in for about 3k+ hours I guess and the later half I spent mostly in WvW and PvP after the pve became plain boring. Skyscale, legendary items, cool skins everything is a grind through boring achievements. Recycled mobs, no challenge whatsoever. If u want some challenge -> forget PvE. The worst part is the developers. They ignore feedback, remove anything they don't want to hear and worst of all: they don't play the game they balance. If your class is not a dev favourite: too bad! And as the devs are bad players (obv, they barely play the game) the easiest classes get the most benefits. Balancing is not existent, devs play favourites in balancing and buff classes they like. In PvE it's not much of a big deal, but in pvp/wvw it's ridiculous. Yes, with skill you can win against these overtuned classes, as most people playing them are bad (even then it's hard as build carries!), but the moment you encounter someone who knows how to play these broken builds, have fun! Outside HoT the content gets easier with each DLC, on top of having mounts to just run past everything. EoD is now a walk in the park. I'm running around with a glass power Berserker, killing elites, veterans & champions solo and never got below half health (if you don't know, Berserker gets -300 toughness, so even squishier than other classes). Like wtf is that, in HoT you'd be dead if you try running around with that build without mounts and healer. Raids boil down to: learn some mechs, stack, learn your rotation. Dodging is mostly optional. And if you die, complain about the healer. Fractals: low tier - whatever. High tier: play the most optimal build and class, otherwise gl finding a party. Dungeons: lol Conclusion: If u wanna chill and play after a hard day of work -> it's your game 10/10 If you actually want good challenging content that complements the awesome combat of the game, your only options are WvW & PvP. And there gl playing if ur class is not condi and/or a dev favourite.

Steam launch is a fail and the 90% of the reviews are old players creating steam account just to write a review and clock in a couple hours of gametime. Really pathetic and desperate community. According to the salivating fanbois and shills Steam was going to "bring millions of new players" into the game? What happened? 2k new players tops and most already left after seeing the paywall.
