This game is criminally underrated and even mocked for no reason, it has flaws but they aren't undermining the jewels it holds in terms of positives. It is convoluted at times, for newcomers, but with a little adjusting (which is mostly tied to time played) it becomes enjoyable and seamless soon enough.

To be honest. Just watching these 17 minutes, the game has nothing to offer to me. The walking animation to start with to the straying around not having a clear path is kinda a "never gonna try" feeling for me. Since i have only around 5hrs per week to play anyway, its out of the "games to play" for me.

I was introduced to this game by my sister who showed me the ropes and was watching me play my first few days. I'm lucky for that, but sometimes I wish I experienced this game for the first time by just figuring things out myself. I had only been playing for a few weeks when my birthday came around and I had asked my mom for the expansions for my birthday. The expansions are great, and I highly recommend them.

I’m glad you decided to try GW2 out and enjoyed it :) Tyria is a great place to adventure and have fun! I think you were confused because of a few reasons; 1 being that you didn’t seem to read what each ability does other than your first ability (maybe you did but just didn’t put it in the video). Reading the abilities will really help you understand what each ability does and how it works. 2 is that you ended up playing as a Mesmer, which is one of GW2s more difficult classes to understand. They are illusion based, and their primary class focus are creating clones and phantasms of themselves to trick enemies. Not a very beginner friendly class imo. I hope you continue, as I would love to watch more videos from you on your time in GW2. Keep it up, and don’t be afraid to ask for help. Us veteran players are always more than willing to lend a helping hand.

Best MMO games so far...you never alone in this game because there is always other player in your map, unlike other MMO that looks dead after a few years. Good art, storyline and mapping too...worth every penny

  • @ddfordummies5099
    @ddfordummies5099 Жыл бұрын

Couple of things... Mesmer is a complicated profession that is built mainly on summoning illusions and clones and then using your F1-F4 abilities to cause your clones to do different things. Outside of that, you found out that your profession has abilities (utilities - 6-10) and your weapons (7:36) have abilities (1-5) and you can weapon swap and you also have two-handed, one-handed and offhand weapons. Not every weapon is available to every profession. Let that sink in for a second. No two mesmers will play the same as you can truly customize your playstyle depending on what you enjoy to use and play. Mesmers also have a lot of portals that can teleport you and allies through gates that you place which is why a lot of parties or squads will like to have a mesmer. 4:09 - You mentioned the cutscenes tied to the personal story missions. These are a little different than quests which are the hearts you found on the map. These cutscenes get significantly better in the game in the later expansions. They no longer use the awkward your character on one side and the other NPC on the other side but you still get voice acting throughout the entire game which is truly impressive. You saw mounts a little bit (12:50) and the reason the permanent unlock is behind a pay wall is because mounts weren't released until 2nd expansion called Path of Fire. So if you like mounts, you can unlock the majority of all of them by purchasing this expansion and doing the story missions and collections to unlock them. In this expansion you can unlock 6 various mounts (Raptor, Springer, Skimmer, Jackal, Griffon, and Warclaw - WvW mount) plus 1 more mount that is hidden in the Living World Season 4 called the Skyscale (personal hovering dragon/wyvern mount). Other expansions: Heart of Thorns (1st expansion) unlocks your glider... Good for jumping off high places and not immediately dying from fall damage and the 9th class - the Revenant. End of Dragons (3rd expansion) unlocks fishing, the siege turtle (2 people can use this mount), jade bot, and the skiff (aka boat - multiple people can party up and use the same boat). EVERY EXPANSION gives you new ways to customize your profession called elite specializations so you can think of it as 9 new class archetypes (D&D language). If you want every expansion then I would suggest Collection Standard Edition of the game for roughly $50 USD/50 euros/44 pounds. There is one additional purchase you may want to make depending if you like the story in the game. Expansions take some time to build IRL so between them, there were times that the company released mid-season story patches basically called Living World Seasons. Living World Season 1 is free. If you were playing the game when the other seasons were released, you got the episodes for free but in your case, the others cost in-game currency called Gems. There is currently LWS 2 (1280 gems), 3 (960 gems), 4 (960 gems), and Icebrood Saga (or IBS - again, 960 gems). To summarize, if you want all of the story from the base game and all the expansions then the game is basically $50 and the rest of the story is 3840 gems which you can buy 4000 gems for $50 USD. In the future, log in while the living world season content is being released and you don't need to pay for them at all. You didn't really explore: - crafting system - specializations - Hero Points (you saw it a little with all the abilities you found by doing PvP - 14:30) Your approach of learning the profession without jumping into the deep of the pool with hundreds of abilities is the BEST way to learn a new one instead of using a level 80 boost. The only reason I would use a Level 80 boost to start the game is if you wanted to start playing and learning the game in Cantha (End of Dragons) instead of in core Tyria. The best part of the game is the community which typically is very helpful to new players (sometimes even TOO helpful) but I have found that they are willing to send items or answer questions without really any issue.

7:40 Weapons are basically like different talent specs in WoW. They make it so you can many subclasses and switch at will. So each weapon is basically a different subclass with its own playstyle. It's one of the best part about GW2. Also you are meant to always have 2 equipped and switch between them during combat as needed.

Before, your weapons required "experience" (hitting stuff with it) to unlock skills, no matter your character level. So if it was your first time using the weapon you would have access to #1 only. After gaining enough "experience" you would then unlock #2 so on and so forth until you max out the weapon and have access to all of its skills. It made for a more organic learning curve compared to now where you unlock every weapon skills based on your character level which may feel a little bit overwhelming considering how fast the leveling experience is.

I can't describe the feeling I got when I tried out GW2 a couple years back. The world feels huge, the amount of builds you could play and such, I guess it was how I felt when I first played WoW. I bought the xpacs and got a couple characters to max, and then I kind of just stopped playing. I tried struggling my way through a bunch of the story to unlock flying (I think?) with my terrible build and gear and kind of gave up in the end But when you first start, the game is incredible. Their world events are awesome too, there's one called Super Adventure Festival and it's like playing another class kinda while you go around these "video game-ified" levels. So cool. I talked myself into buying the game(expansions) on Christmas because I was bored and just done with WoW and the other MMOs. I didn't expect much tbh. I figured a couple days and I'd be done, but I was bored and needed something to play for a couple days. I had tried it back in 2013 and lasted all of a week I think. Maybe less. I was so pleasantly surprised. A bit shocked tbh. It's everything I've been looking for in a MMO recently and I'm now mad at myself for ignoring it for so long lol. I can't get off the game after a week now. I haven't even used my 80 boost yet either. I started a Mesmer as well. Great class. Probably won't be my main as I've heard it's not that great in PvP, but it's a ton of fun in PvE. I so love the ability to switch weapons in combat. Also REALLY love how you can go to lower level areas and the game scales you down and you still get full XP credit just as if you were in a high level area. Lowbies get to see high level guys running around doing quests right beside them. It's great! You don't have to miss 90% of the story when you do a boost to 80! You can go back to those noob zones, do the quests and get full credit to level your end game stuff. I really want to kiss whoever came up with that lol.

Leveled up a thief (first character) to 80 a couple days ago finally, after having the game for over a decade. Lol. I played gw1 a lot, and got gw2 a handful of months after release but didn't play it much because I basically stopped playing all games for a long time once I started hitchhiking. At first, I was turned off by gw2 at release, because it was so different than gw1. But now that I tried again with no expectations, I'm hooked. I really hope they add some more PvP modes, particularly modes that were in gw1. I feel like that's easier to do than releasing whole expansions, so it's weird to me that they haven't yet. 🤞

GW2 it's the first MMO that i haven't stoped playing after the first day, i started to play a week ago and this one it's fun, maybe it's because it's my "first" but the questing was really smooth to me, i didn't struggle with it at all, it's pretty well design and easy to follow along, the weapons system it's really fun to mess with, from weapon combinations to the weapon skills themselves. The story is entertaining at the least and i'm hoping for it to be good. For someone like me that have basically never played other MMOs, i think this one it's a good entry point to the genre, having nothing to compare it with makes it feel like a new and refreshing journey from all the other games/generes i've played before, from Competitive shooters to Open world single players.

I think it’s complicated for some people because it’s different than most other MMO’s, and because it has too many currencies, too many modes of play, and too many options for how to play and how you can alter the UI and keybinds. I ❤ it and think it’s the best game ever, but it’s not for everyone. It also doesn’t hold your hand and tell players what they should do next, so they aren’t used to that freedom and some people feel lost. Others love the freedom to play multiple different ways and still get experience for all of it.

It was designed to be a PvP game in its core. From small-scale 1v1s, 5v5 competitive arenas, to giant 50v50v50 battles. Not restricting movement and lag-friendly hit-boxes are an integral part. And compared to FF14 it has magnitudes less visual noise, which is really important in World-vs-World (which no MMO delivered at such a large-scale with such playable performance, at least for my PC...). At max level, the "floatiness" disappears and it is replaced by the most fast-paced reactive combat with Dodges,Blocks,Evades,Counters,Absorbs,Reflects,Dashes,Teleports i've ever experienced.

It's just so different from most other games, so it does feel overwhelming at the start. Add that with the combat being more like a fighting game, especially depending on which class you pick. So you have to learn a new combat system, and everything is thrown at you and it's nothing like any other game most have seen.

He just needs to READ the skills, and spend a few minutes understanding them. I think his core mentality is at fault: He just wants to cross-out a list, he just wants to be able to say to himself: "Yeah, i've tried GW2/SWTOR/OSRS... and WoW is better..." At least this is my fear.

I have such a love/hate relationship with GW2, ultimately, the good outweighs the bad for me so I still play a lot but the game has a lot of frustrating things that for some reason, some players just ognore or pretend aren't a thing. I gave the biggest side eye after some players came to FF14 from GW2 that had complained about too much visual effects until they learned they could turn off other player effects and just keep the essentials, then I came to GW2 and did a boss with a couple friends and we were completely confused because you couldn't see anything, the game turned into a stuttering mess, you literally could not see the boss attacks, adds, nothing, it was just a million effects and like 40 Mechanist golems. I still like the game a lot but it has a lot of things like that which make it very frustrating to do certain content.

There's a shit ton to do, the game just doesn't force you to do it like it would with a gear treadmill. There's dungeons, fractals, strikes, raids, PvP, WvW, open world maps and metas, bounties, etc. By the time you hit max level you've only gone through at most a third of the game's open world zones and maybe 10-15% of the game's story, and haven't even touched the game's endgame content and systems.

Forcing players to have to keep getting better gear to keep people interested seems like a lazy and cheap game mechanic cheat. Any game can do that. I'd personally much rather a game that focuses on you growing as a player and to play better and have to change ways of playing, to get through areas. The combat, story, world, mounts with special abilities, etc are much more entertaining to explore and unlock than just some gear with a higher number stat on it needing to get over and over to be able to get further. Also, if you said you found the game boring once you hit max level, then you really just don't care about anything other than numbers getting bigger, because that's when the game becomes much more fun. Unlocking all the skill trees, mounts, gear, titles, masteries, etc

And the new strikes....i mean.....yeah nah
